I use this cooler for 10 gal batches all the time, no problem with up to 30lbs of grain, other than it gets heavy!

    Wheat malt grist pictures

I'm using a JSP Maltmill, powered by my trusty old Dewalt drill. Great workhorse! It handled the wheat OK if I started the mill, THEN added the wheat, a bit at a time. With the hopper full of wheat, it just bound up. This is more a factor of my drill than the mill, IMHO. First time I...

    Keg line sanitizing

Me? I use a carbonator cap on a pop bottle filled with whatever cleaning fluid I'm using. I attach the carbonator cap to the beer out line, open the tap, and squeeze the bottle. Cleaning fluid then travels through the beer-lines and out the tap. Simple and cheap! Plus the carbonator cap...

    Wheat malt grist pictures

Man, you're a day late! I brewed a weizenbock yesterday with 50% wheat. Milling wheat sux! The stuff is hard! Also I took almost a 10% efficiency hit with wheat making up over 50% of my grain bill. I now have either a "light" weizenbock, or a "heavy" dunkel?

    Wheat is HARD!

    Yup! It's a 15 Gal cooler with a 20" braid.
  13. jma99

    Wheat is HARD!

Nope, The wheat is under 50% of the grain bill. I've done this recipe a couple of times and never had a stuck sparge. (I batch sparge)

    Wheat is HARD!

Oh Man! I forgot to mix the wheat with the barley before running it through my mill! 10 gal batch: 2 TBS PH 5.2 Stabilizer (Mash 60.0 mins) 10 lbs Wheat, Red (Cargill) (2.9 SRM) 9 lbs Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) 8 lbs Munich Malt (9.0 SRM) 2 lbs Caramel Malt - 80L (Cargill) (80.0...

    Corny Sanitation Question

The foaming goodness of Starsan is great for kegs! Fill with a couple of gallons, seal and shake, bleed out the foam from the poppets, empty and fill! I love the foam tower as the keg is filling! Keeps everything out during the filling process.

Anyone make a hopstopper/hop taco that uses a plate chiller?

I do! I use pellet hops, about 3 to 4 oz in a 10 gal batch. I use nylon hop bags and a homemade hop taco. My plate chiller remains very clean, and never gets stuck draining. (I use gravity from pot to chiller to carboy) No worries!
  18. jma99

What is used for fermenting 10 gallon batches?

Gravity sucks, man! I use 2 6 gal better-bottles with fermcap. Much easier to move around, and I can use different yeasts!
