    Bottling After 11-12 Days?

The plot (or beer?) thickens... Gravity reading yesterday: 1.010 Gravity reading this evening: 1.012 :drunk: I'm guessing I just made an incorrect reading off the hydrometer (due to massive bubbliness in the thief), rather than the gravity in my brew all of a sudden increasing again...

    Cheapest SS Brew Pot?

How big of a partial boil are you planning on doing? If you want to do 3 or 3.25 gallons boiling, you'll need a 5 gallon pot (that's what I do) because once you add the hops, the boiling can overtake your pretty quick if you don't have enough leeway in the top of the pot. I'm not sure if I'd...

    Sanitizing Bottles in Oven

I have starsan and that's how I sanitized them last time, but since it's only my 2nd batch I'd figure why not try something else for the sake of experimenting. Does the heat actually effect their structural integrity? I've heard rumors, but I have not actually heard any evidence to support...

    Sanitizing Bottles in Oven

Bottling day is tomorrow! I was going to try sanitizing my bottles in the dishwasher on a Drying cycle, but then realized I don't have a way to check the temperature inside to make sure it's hot enough. So I checked my How-to-Brew page and saw that I can sterilize the bottles if left in the...

    Bottling After 11-12 Days?

Thanks, pending Wednesday's gravity reading, I"ll bottle then!

    Bottling After 11-12 Days?

My American Wheat has been in the Primary for 10 days now and the gravity has fallen from 1.050 to 1.010. My estimated ABV is 5.24%. If my gravity is the same tomorrow and Wednesday, is it too early to bottle it? I'll be gone until next Monday, and having heard that Wheats are better young, I...

    Bottles My Irish Red

Mine developed a sour taste after a few weeks in the bottles. I was thinking maybe it was a contamination but then once the ambient temps dropped from the 80's/90's back into the 60's/70's the sour taste went away and now they're delicious again...not sure if that's coincidence and some of my...

    Beginners Brewing Blog

Hey icedub, spend the $10 for an Autosiphon! I read a bit of your blog and from what I've read, mouth suctioning to start your primary --> secondary siphon is not a great idea. I can't tell you how nice it's been having that Autosiphon haha.

    Beginners Brewing Blog

Sorry to hear about that glorious Porter ending up on the floor...are you okay though? No cuts from the glass? That's what I worry about while carrying my full carboy around. I really need to pick up either a handle, or one of those Carboy Haulers that are just straps that go underneath it...

    Bottles My Irish Red

I also just brewed NB's Irish Red. I tasted it at bottling as well, but I don't recall any real alcohol taste to it. It certainly smelled strong though, but after 3 weeks in the bottle it was nice.

What style takes the least amount of time?

I'd do a wheat, that's what I'm doing now because I want some to drink while it's still somewhat warm outside.

    Do You Secondary a Wheat?

Actually no, I just use an 8 gallon food grade plastic bucket. Nothing fancy to it, but it would be nice to eventually make a bottling bucket with a spigot.

    Oregon tightens homebrew laws..

Yeah I heard about this, I was going to enter my first brew into the competition and now it's been canceled because of this bogus interpretation. Hopefully it is taken care of soon to allow competitions to continue.

    Do You Secondary a Wheat?

Thanks, I will just bottle after about 3 weeks then (after checking for a consistent gravity 3 days in a row). I don't have a bottling bucket per se, but I will just rack into my secondary carboy and bottle immediately from there. I don't have one yet because I use Cooper's carbonation tabs...

    Do You Secondary a Wheat?

Thanks, if it helps at all I did not strain the wort at all, so all of the hop/sludge went right into the primary from the brewpot. If it's still okay to just bottle from the primary I may do that, but if not straining would cause me to get hops/sludge in my bottles I'll rack it to my secondary...

    Do You Secondary a Wheat?

I brewed my American Wheat friday night (2nd batch is down!) and the instructions say Primary for 2 weeks and then bottle. However, I had a beer judge taste my first brew and said that one of my off-flavors could be fixed by leaving the beer on the yeast longer in the primary (so more like 3...

    Brewing Beer AND Wine?

Does anyone else here make wine in addition to their beer? I'm curious about making a batch down the line but I'm not sure what extra equipment I would have to pick up. Would you just need the different bottles/corks and a corker, or are there other things you need?

new beer i just picked up...

Blue Moon is my standby at the local bar, it's absolutely delicious with a slice of orange. Sure, it's Coors, but it's good Coors.
