    ghetto fermentation temperature control

I am interested in the responses. When the weather warms up it is going to be more difficult to maintain 68deg. I have thought of a cooler with a hole in the top for the carboy to poke out of and use dry ice to maintain some cool?

    Different "Hefe" advice?

I think I may dip and check gravity this weekend, I wish I had taken an OG measurement. My first two brews were delicious and I am like a dog outside a butcher shop looking at the carboy. I am hoping to bottle next weekend.

    Different "Hefe" advice?

Hello, My Hefe is in the fermenter and is still mildly bubbling after 14 days! My usual ale only bubbles for 4 days. The krausen has been a steady 3" and never came close to the air lock. I forgot to take a OG which was stupid but I will take a measurement next weekend which will be 3 weeks in...

Oxidation while transfering to a bottling bucket.

Two batches ago, I was racking to the bottling bucket and got a bunch of air into the mix. There was a gap where the tube met the cane and it sucked air in the solution until I got it fixed. Believe me, there was bubbles all over the bottling bucket. I thought I was screwed however I bottled...

If a full boil is possible, DO IT!!

so, if I read this right, I can improve my brews if I increase the boil capacity. I currently brew 2.5 gallons, will I have to adjust the hop quantity if I increase that to 3 gallons? Will I see that much differerence if I increase 1/2 gallon? I don't have the software do make the calc's. The...

    Hefe Recipe Advice

Holy Hefe Batman! The Hefe has been in the fermenter for 7 days now and it still has mild airlock activity! I have only brewed Ales and they stop bubbling after maybe 4 days or so, this thing is still going strong. Is this normal or do I have some sort of atomic concoction happening?

    Brew Pot Spigot

Hi Guys, I bought a turkey fryer from Sears and the pot came with what looks like a chrome plated spigot on the bottom of the pot. Can I use this to drain the wort after boiling? Seems like it would be ok but I thought best to ask.

I Broke My Thermometer In My Wort

The same thing happened to me however it was when I was heating up the water. There was a bunch of small pieces of glass all over so I threw out the water, cleaned and started again. I got a metal temp gauge and it works great. It hangs on the side and tells me the temp through the boil. I am...

Thanks for the quick reply, this is my 3rd brew and you figure I would get the DWHAHB philosophy. The other two brews has hefty Krausen from the get go so I was...well...I'm off to HAHB. Thanks Guys!

    Bottling Tips for the Homebrewer

My bottling method is VERY expensive and takes many years to create but it works beautifully. First, get married and have a daughter. Second, raise her to be handy in general, we like camping, fishing and bike riding. Then, after 11 years of hard work, teach her the bottling procedure and let...

Is it a full time job keeping up with the n00bs?

Don't underestimate how hard it is to be a nOOb. It's a full time job deciding when to throw out the batch and constantly mucking with the wort, this is exhausting!
