    Ooooh, that smell

I have been using Crystal Geyser water for all of my brewing. I found a placeon the web that shows their water composition: Calcium Ion: 12 PPM Magnesium: 3.1 PPM Potassium: 8.7 PPM Sulfates: 2.6 PPM Sodium: 130 PPM Total Dissolved Solids: 590 PPM *(except TDS which are parts per...

Bottling 1st batch tomorrow... any last minute tips?

My first mistakes involved not mixing the priming sugar well enough so I had an uneven carbonation problem. Just dont splash the wort and you will be fine.

First time All-grain BIAB, with photos

Great Write up! Not bad really, my first few tries would have made the Beer Jesus cry. I still have the occasional brain-fart but the process gets much easier given time.

What are you brewing this weekend

What will you be brewing? I'm going all in on a Red Ale that should have a very hoppy aroma. :ban:

Is this "Band-Aid" taste because I used C-Brite?

During fermentation, it did spike a fever of about 78deg before I could cool it down with ice. I fermented with Safale 05.

Is this "Band-Aid" taste because I used C-Brite?

I am trying to diagnose the same problem. Light band aid smell but luckily not too bad taste. Not green beer either. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/ooooh-smell-247076/

    First Brew Day Disaster

Better bottles! Light and easy to clean. No more glass for me.

    Ooooh, that smell

"Chlorophenols result from the reaction of chlorine-based sanitizers (bleach) with phenol compounds and have very low taste thresholds. Rinsing with boiled water after sanitizing is the best way to prevent these flavors." I use bottled spring water which I don't think has a chlorine smell. I...

    Ooooh, that smell

Well, I brw with all tap water. All Grain, and I hit my mash temps pretty well. The frementing temp might have spiked due to a vigorous fermentation but I don't know if that causes it?

    Ooooh, that smell

I have a batch of a blonde ale that has a faint scent of Band Aid. It doesn't have an over powering band aid taste but the scent is there. What causes that?

    Attention San Diego brewers!!

I can't stand American Homebrew Supply and Homebrew Mart is a tad on the Snobby side. I really like the new place Homebrew and Gardens, they have an awesome All Grain class on Saturdays. I spent an hour there just chatting with friendly guys and even got a lesson in kegging and building a...

My Exwifes poodle dog loved homebrew. The damn thing could drink a whole bottle. She got the dog in the divorce settlement.

    First ever AG underway

That sounds like my first Ag batch, I did everything wrong and to make matters worse, I forgot to take OG readings so I was clueless about effeciency and all but it turned out great anyway. I don't think you can screw up the Ed Wort recipe.

    First ever AG underway

I got smart today and drilled a hole in my cooler so I can stick my thermometer in and watch mash temp without opening the lid. Duh, I'm Winning!

    First ever AG underway

Funny, I am brewing the same recipie, its my fave. My efficiency is 66% which I hope to increase a bit today. Water, grain, hops and yeast and the whole brew was less than 30 bucks!

    First ever AG underway

Good Luck, Im starting mt 5th all grain here in a few minutes. Once you go all grain, you will never settle for anything less. Its actually pretty easy and much cheaper and I think it tastes WAY better.

How long can I leave on fruit??

How about the temperature while the wort is sitting on the fruit. Since it is already fermented, would I need to keep the temperature of the secondary in the 65deg range or can it vary up to 70's?
