    Columbus, GA

I'm in Americus GA - not far from Columbus. Still very new to home brewing, but theres a big group of local guys here who have been very kind in helping me get started.

So I'm making watermelon wine now...and need a little help.

Sorry to bring an old thread back from the dead. (Better than starting a new one though, right?) I'm curious how this recipe turned out. And do you really have to let it age for a year before you taste it?

I second that. Recycle! Same goes for carboard 6-pack holders.

My first 5gallon batch - fermented out in 4 days

Thanks for all the advice guys. Glad to know that I didn't screw anything up with my first batch. If the secondary will help with clarity, I might move it on over to the secondary tonight and let it sit another week before I bottle it. No starter. The recipe came with muntons dry ale...

My first 5gallon batch - fermented out in 4 days

I recently picked up one of those $64 kits from Groupon/Midwest. I've done a few batches of Mr.Beer, but this was my first 5gallon batch and my first time using "specialty grains" I did the Midwest Autumn Amber recipe. OG reading was 1.044 (within the suggested range for their recipe). The...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Here's the Bullseye I bottled last night (top picture). I did this in a 2gallon bucket fermenter, but it was a Mr.Beer recipe. Only difference was the yeast... and a little less water so it would fit in the bucket. Tonight I moved my other Mr.Beer recipe into the bucket. This one started...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Bottled my Bullseye Beer tonight. OG was 1.064. FG was 1.018. Pretty close to what the recipe suggested. If I did my math right, that's about 6% ABV. Right? It was a nice golden caramel color, and nice malty flavor. I'm looking forward to cracking one of these open. This was my...

    Ever put Figs in Beer?

I'm new to brewing as well, and havent played with fruit yet at all (outside of some Craigtube-style prison hooch). But would it do any good to run the figs through a juicer? You could add the juice to the wort at flameout to get the natural sugars in on the primary fermentation. Freeze...

    Hello from GA

I dont know you, but I'm jealous of you. You live MUCH closer to the Porter Beer Bar than I do.

Peanut Butter Porter W/Powdered Peanut Butter

You can get PB2 by the pound on Amazon.com. Its cheaper than the jars too. (Two jars = 13oz for about $12. A 1lb bag = 16oz for $11) Midwest sells a similar extract recipe called "Chocolate Covered BEAVR nuts" (I think they have an all-grain version as well). The midwest kit doesn't come...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

I just took another gravity reading on my Bullseye ale. Been in the fermenter for just over two weeks. OG was 1.064. A few days ago it was 1.022. Tonights reading was 1.018, and still bubbling. This one's gonna be good.

    Three Philosophers clone help

You can harvest yeast from storebought beer? How so? Also, any suggestions on the appropriate mix of malt extracts and grains (how much of each listed above) for a partial grain extract version of 3P? And how much kriek should I add for a 5gallon batch?

    midwest kit suggestions??

Read the descriptions of the hops befre you buy. They'll tell you what flavors and aromas they lend to the beer. Same with yeasts.

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Thanks for the tips. I will defintiely never do another batch of MrB with only one can of HME again. The result is just disappointing. The clarity of this one was much better in the bottle. It clouded up when I poured. This one has not been in the fridge yet though. Maybe that will help...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Bottled my first batch of Mr Beer a week ago today. Too early to open, I know. I just couldn't resist. Had to open one and try it tonight. This was made with a single can of Englishman's Nut Brown HME plus the booster. I also added a cup of brown sugar and a teaspoon of cinnamon (not sure...

I registered for that free stuff. It never came, but I did get the email about the Pilsner. I think I'm done with MrBeer ingredients though. After I use my last cans of HME and UME, I'm done.

    Three Philosophers clone help

I love me some 3Ps. I'd like to try something like this as a partial grain extract brew. Any thoughts on steeping some caramel grains with a combination of pilsen and amber malt extracts? Also, any idea where to get this type of yeast? Northern had some but they list it as sold out.

I didnt want to use granulated sugar either. Went to my local homebrew shop and picked up a small bag of actual priming sugar. It was affordable and seems to have worked really well. Concerning using honey in lieu of priming sugar, see this thread...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Started a batch of Mr Beer's Bullseye recipe last night. Used all the Mr.B ingredients, but subbed in half a pack of S-04 yeast instead of the cheap stuff. Also used less water than called for so I could do this one in a little 2-gallon bucket fermenter rather than the Mr.B keg. Pitched the...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Did the same thing on my first batch. I did a nut brown HME, and added a cup of brown sugar. Took a taste as I was bottling and it tasted very cidery. I'm hoping some time in the bottles will help.
