Starter kit question: 1g or 5g?

This is exactly what I am in the process of doing right now. The honey needed just to make a gallon of mead cost me $28 CAD. No sense wasting money on making a huge batch, messing it up and having to dump it down the drain.

    What are you drinking now?

Nickel Brook Old Kentucky Bastard Bourbon Stout, probably the most lethal beer you can get that is made in Canada. Seasonal only in the winter funnily enough. I guess it helps you get through these cold long winters in Ontario :D

    Starting my first mead tomorrow

So I guess it isn't just a matter of adding it to the recipe then. Good to know! Thanks for the advice. This is the recipe I am going by, and I think in order to make it simple, I am going to just use honey and the yeast, no extra stuff until I get comfortable with brewing...

    Starting my first mead tomorrow

I was reading through my old post yesterday and have assembled what I need to make a basic mead. I am going to get some local apple cider without preservatives in it. Anyway, I have White Lab Mead Yeast, and am picking up 4 pounds of honey tomorrow. The fermenting kit I have is a 2 gallon pail...

Hi, I am a Canuck, and I might be Drunk

I am not adverse to doing ciders, but I don't drink them much outside of the summer, during the winter I like beers that are strong and dark, because they are much like a good Canadian winter, the snow storms are strong and the days are mostly dark. Hey, 49 years without a Cup (seriously, that...

Apple Crisp Mead, looking for suggestions

I apologize for bumping a year old and my own thread, I didn't get a brewing kit until recently and financial troubles wound up putting my plans on the back burner for a while as well. My kit is a 2 gallon pail and a 1 gallon bottle, so your suggestion works out perfectly for me.

Hi, I am a Canuck, and I might be Drunk

Howdy All, I have had an account for a while, was considering making mead back earlier in the year but that fell through due to financial struggles. Anyway, Santa brought me a starter brewing kit for Christmas so I am going to start brewing some small batch beers and learning how to do it myself.

Apple Crisp Mead, looking for suggestions

Some great and interesting responses, thanks for the suggestions everyone. I am still waiting on the honey as my best friend's wife has a bee hive of several supers currently going, once it is ready I will start crafting.

Apple Crisp Mead, looking for suggestions

Hey all, I am considering making a batch of mead, which I have never done before so you could say I am a major noob. I have read the guides and know of some places where I can get the equipment needed, or at the very least can rent it. I want to use apples in my mead mixture, probably honey...
