    Canadian Supplies

Yeah, they started selling Tavistock Hops last year I think, but the website still lists them as sold out, likely due to them not having as much product in their first few years. A few guys I have talked to at the KW homebrewer get together's that Rob has put on (I went to the bottle share at...

What's the best place to get fruit puree from in Ontario? I want to try my hand at a fruit beer but I know this is probably the best way to get enough volume to infuse into a beer without doing all the work to pasteurize a bunch of fruit myself.

    Canadian Roll Call!!

Is anyone here participating in the Royal Finger homebrew competition in October? It's being organized by Royal City Brewery in Guelph and Shortfinger Brewing Company in Kitchener. I'll be entering a weizenbock, I might do a second entry, but I'll have to brew it right after I get back from...

I won't be able to get down there for a couple of weeks yet. I am not planning on doing another brew until I get back from vacation, I'll be gone from the 21st until the 27th, so I will probably swing by on the 19th and pick up some hops for an IPA, or wait until Rob at SFBC gets them in stock.

Kettle souring a gluten free beer?

Hey all, So, this is something I want to tackle, in particular because I have a couple of friends who are gluten free types but they also still like beer. Of course, gluten free beers are not entirely common at breweries here in Ontario, however some do put them out. Gluten free sour beers are...

Newbie BIAB question: 5G batch with 5G kettle?

I got an 8 gallon recently and you pretty much have to sparge your grain, depending on how much grain you are using. I had 14 lbs of grain for 5 gallons and I started with 16 Liters of water (about 3 gallons) for my initial mash, and had to move it out because with the grain and the water, it...

Torn on kettle size - thoughts?

I picked up an Arthur's 201 stainless steel brew pot, 8 gallon for $100 CAD. I looked at the SS Brewtech and a few other options and I wasn't going to justify spending that kind of cash for a brew pot as an amateur. It's a solid kettle, I just did a 5 gallon Weizenbock BIAB and everything so far...

    Danby DAR044A6BSLDB Kegerator Cabinet Build

@Sellick That looks amazing. Do you happen to have a guide on how to do that thermostat mod? I really want to get mine done up like that because the dial sucks! :D

    Danby DAR044A4BSLDD Temperature Mods?

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has done any temperature control mods to that particular fridge. It is the 4.4 Cubic Ft Danby Designer fridge and it seems to have some rather crappy temperature adjustments. After leaving it plugged in for a few days with a thermometer left inside of it...

    Finished fermenting 100% brett

Fair enough. After a few weeks of some aggressive fermentation (one was on the verge of bubbling out of the fermenter, it seems to have gone dormant. I wonder if this is a temperature issue, as the temperatures haven't been very consistent and maybe the yeast has just gone dormant. Based on...

I was trying to get some aged hops from them, Hallertau for my first sour project but they never got back to me after a few email exchanges. I was a sad and put my plans on hold, I wanted to support a local business but I guess I got lost in the shuffle of everyday business. I should pop down...

    Finished fermenting 100% brett

I am wondering what I should do with this beer. I started two 1 gallon batches with the same wort on the 19th of June. Starting gravity was 1.050 and it finished at 1.035 (did a BIAB so I don't think the efficiency was very good). This was a first run test batch because I started reading about...

    O-ring deformation

Hydraulic oil won't damage nitrile O Rings, not unless they are exposed to the air and oil at the same time. In a proper sealing, as in perfect compression because the seating pocket as well as the surface of the mating face are correct, they will not usually expand or break for several years...

Fermentation time for a fruit lambic?

Good to know, thank you for the advice. Pineapples and mango's aren't exactly seasonal and won't be until the winter anyway. How long should I bottle condition for?

Fermentation time for a fruit lambic?

No, just one batch that I am going to do on fruit. The one's I currently did are 100% Brett fermentations, this batch is going to be entirely different.

Fermentation time for a fruit lambic?

Hey guys, I have been poking around finding recipe ideas for making my first fruit lambic (I currently have 3x 1 gallon brett sours fermenting for science purposes) and I have a couple of questions based on this recipe. 4 lb of 2 row 3/4 lb of 6 row 2 lb unmalted wheat 1 oz Saaz hops (60...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I am kind of undecided on what I want to do. I am in the experimenting mode right now. I have two 1 gallon Belgian Ales with WLP Brett yeast fermenting away, they are still going at it after a month and I am unsure how long I want to keep them going for. I want to whip out some more 1 gallon...

    Water Question?

My tap water comes off the Grand River in southern Ontario, the water isn't clean enough for making beer. It's actually pretty bad, but at least it's not the aquifer water that they use in Guelph which is hard as hell and ruins your appliances if not softened.
