Hexavalent Chromium risks working with sanke kegs?

Well I do have a particle mask so I'll go that way with good ventilation. Better safe than sorry. It'll freak you out to hear about risks of something you're planning to do over the weekend especially when you've never heard it before. I've worked on vehicles doing welding, cutting, etc...

Hexavalent Chromium risks working with sanke kegs?

I'm hoping we have some experienced folks here who could shed some light on this for me. I'm a software developer who started working in the petrochem industry and they started sending me out to various plants which led to about 30 hours of safety training. Apparently you're at risk to be...

    Need Help With Keggle Please

I'd keep in mind that you might not need to go overboard immediately. I followed the youtube videos to cut off the top of my kegs and installed a weldless ball valve on the bottom of them to start. I built on that. The equipment worked but got better over time adding things like the...

    Note To Self: !

The key to getting over that hurdle is to shotgun the first 2-3 cheap huge commercial beers. If you have cans get a key or if bottles get a straw. It'll be great after that.

    New to AG

I started with a 10 gallon cooler round, a 15 gallon aluminum pot and the two 5 gallon stock pots my wife has. I also have a propane jet burner. The cooler is great. I have no heat loss problems and it seems an easier time than my friend with a 15 gallon ss mashing tun.

First all grain brew (with amazing brew sculpture pic)

You might consider pre-heating your cooler tun with some hot water to be sure you can minimize that heat loss.

    Baton Rouge Beer Fest

3 weeks late going in to this conversation but you guys should note they're limiting it to the first 1500 guests this year. They also pre-sale tickets over the phone and when I ordered mine they'd already sold near 500. However the max capacity should bring back the super fun factor of the...

Wife vs Fermentation - She always wins.

I suppose this happens to the best of brewers. You've worked hard crafting your brew. Thought out your recipe, purchased and prepared your ingredients, cleaned, cooked, pitched and finally the easiest part: stick it in the closet. You warn "do not turn off the heat before you leave for...

    Weed & Feed?

Well hell I guess we'll have to see. I talked to the lawn guy and he swears it won't hurt the plant but really I guess we'll see. It was the solid type that's dispensed and it didn't get hit directly as I have the garden built up with a barrier around it. He says he sprays it all over...

    Weed & Feed?

Well I walk outside to water my new plants this morning and my wife has had the lawn guy weed & feed the entire yard. Well apparently he weed & feeded my hops garden a little bit. Does anyone know if this will hurt the plants?

Seems like ALOT of water lost during boil

Hell I suppose we could've been off by at most a gallon.(at the very most) I wish the pot was here so I could get the diameter. The way we measured how much liquid was in the pot was to drain the wort from the sparge/lauter tun in to the gallon jug and then pour it in to the pot...

Seems like ALOT of water lost during boil

We actually accounted pretty well for the amount of wort we were able to get out of the masher. Using a gallon pitcher we filled it 6 1/2 times through the course of the sparging process. We live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana so as always it's humid. Now we were boiling with a pretty big...

Seems like ALOT of water lost during boil

So today was our first go at all grain brewing. We did a 5 gallon batch for the sake of figuring out of all the details. First of all I'll be doing 10-15 gallon batches from now out just to make it worth the time! It was far more work than the malt extract with the whole...

    Worth the wait?

My friends and I have taken up brewing and we kegged out the gate as well. So far we've yet to bottle a batch. We've kegged, carbonated and then tasted it within a week each time. I'm not sure what the advantages of bottling and/or aging are yet. Haven't gotten that far in to the...

All Grain, First Day, Sanity Question

Ok so we ordered a "milled all grain British Ale" kit from Austin Home Brew. Since I've misinterpreted things before I'm asking here before we begin. Does "milled" mean that we don't need to crush the grain prior to making the mash? Thanks to all of you at this site who've helped me so...

    Yeast and Yeast Starter Question

Yeah it smelled right when I cooked it.(like wort) I put a bit of it to my tongue and it had a slight sweet taste to it.(I've actually never tasted dry malt extract) I boiled the packet in about 2 cups of water. I have one other vial I'll pitch and then harvest from it for the other...

    Yeast and Yeast Starter Question

I'm new to brewing. In an attempt to make a yeast starter I drove over to the home brew shop to purchase some malt extract. When I told the guy what I wanted to do he handed me a packet of powder that said "yeast starter" on the front of it. So I thought "well this is easy" took it to...

Yeast In The Mail For Too Long? Does it go bad?

Sounds good guys. I'll definitely try the starter for the experience and to see if it improves the fermentation. Thank you! :rockin:

Yeast In The Mail For Too Long? Does it go bad?

I'm still pretty new to brewing. Anyhow we ordered some supplies from Austin Home Brew and it took unusually long so it took like 4-5 days to ship. The yeast is the White Labs stuff that comes in vials and when I unpacked it the temperature must've been 80 degrees.(the vial temperature)...
