converting a cooler to a mash tun

By the way I drilled holes in my coolers with a box cutter and a screw driver. The inside is just styrofoam, so I just cut out as small of a hole as possible and pushed the styrofoam out with the screwdriver. Very sophisticated. I used (in reverse order from outside to in, and all...

converting a cooler to a mash tun

There's some nice silicone "gasket maker" that can seal any leaks and is food safe. It's not going to help sturdiness, but any leaks that spring up can be taken care of. http://www.amazon.com/Permatex-F80022-Blue-Silicone-3-Ounce/dp/B0002UEOKK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1279572680&sr=8-1

Screwy Calc - Alcohol, Calories and Carbs

I like it. Especially the automatic temperature adjustments. Nice work.

Keg Hose Insert to Increase Serving Pressure?

It is not at all a waste of CO2. You need a certain pressure for any given temperature to get the right level of carbonation. More pressure from the tank simply balances the pressure coming from the keg (the warmer the keg, the faster the CO2 bubbles in it move, making them stronger and, at a...

Keg Hose Insert to Increase Serving Pressure?

Couldn't you just increase the pressure when you're not serving the beer? That would keep it carbonated, and then you would just turn it down a bit to let it flow slowly/smoothly enough when it's serving time.

Personal Mini Fridge as engine for Fermentation chamber

This isn't exactly what you're looking for, but I think this set-up has some good thoughts on making your lagering set-up large enough. http://knoxhomebrewer.com/images/stories/chiller%20plans.pdf

Patriotic Amber Ale (Rogue American Amber) west coast style!

Yeah I wanted 05 but they were out of that, so I figured I would give the 04 a shot. I'll put a note on the recipe about all that.

Patriotic Amber Ale (Rogue American Amber) west coast style!

I'm actually brewing it today. You're right, the bitterness was off because the boil volume was wrong. I changed the boil volume to 10.5 gallons, and we should be all set.

Patriotic Amber Ale (Rogue American Amber) west coast style!

I took the liberty of putting this recipe on hopville.com (giving credit where it's due, of course.) Had to change the yeast because LHBS didn't have it. Here's the link: http://hopville.com/recipe/285013/american-amber-ale-recipes/rogue-amber-clone

Is this worth buying? (and what is it?)

Thanks again everyone! Looks like I'll pass this one up. Don't want to offend the guy with a "fair offer."

Is this worth buying? (and what is it?)

I think they're perlicks, but you're right, it's not worth $175 for sure. Thanks!

Is this worth buying? (and what is it?)

Well, that worked but it's huge. The "black things" are in the top picture. Sorry for inconveniencing you all with my newbie-ness!

Thanks for your time. Let me try to re-post these images.

Is this worth buying? (and what is it?)

There should be some question mark images. I don't know why they aren't loading.

Is this worth buying? (and what is it?)

Those images are not loading for me, but right-clicking them lets me look at them. I must have screwed something up.

Is this worth buying? (and what is it?)

There's a guy on Craigslist selling all this stuff for $175. Can anyone tell me what it is, and if it's worth buying? I know I could use a few of the perlick faucets, and probably some of the cornelius quick disconnects, but the regulators look ancient. I have no clue what the black things...

    Papazian Recipe Error?

Hi everyone, I'm getting ready for my first all-grain batch, which is going to be Papazian's "Gopher Greatness Oktoberfest" from his "Joy of Homebrewing." My problem is that he lists .5 oz of Perle hops (for 4 HBU) as the boiling hops and then 1 oz. Hallertauer for flavor (these are 4.5...
