Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

my LHBS has this setup with a SS false bottom $110 I believe. I can't recall what home depot was selling the coolers for, I want to say $45 and the false bottoms at the LHBS were like ~$40.

First brew day didn't seem to go to well.

All should be well. Not to nit pick, BUT :) nothing you had today was sterilized, it most likely was sanitized. . . Keep doing what your doing and soon you will enjoy the good beer you just brewed.

    water heater hot water tank?

I have a shop that I was gonna co-convert into a brew house (personal use only) and put a Hot water tank there. So the water would be straight from the water tank. I don't see what the problem would be.

    water heater hot water tank?

I'll just add this here, instead of making a new post as it relates. I want to use my Hot water for the brew pot. It would save time on brew day. I would still just take water at its current temp from the hot water heater, but then place that on the burner to get to temp. Good or bad idea?

How to make a yeast starter - Pictorial

Ran into some trouble. I was in a hurry (I know, the most common mistake, rushing yourself) and read just the first post. I thought 1/2 cup DME PER 500ml water. I was making a 1600 ml starter So, is that gonna be bad, or not so bad? 1600ml, 1 & 1/2 cups DME I am using a stirplate and doing...

My Stirplate... Cheap and Easy Build...

just finished my stirplate. I have a 1" stirbar and 2000mL flask. After tinkering w/the magnets (how do magnets work?!?!?!? :) ) I got it to work flawlessly. brings a strong vortex all the way down on a full flask. I used home depot magnets for 2.19 a two pack. rectangle shape.

    My Homebrew Club Died

If we were closer, I would be down. My buddy and I are thinking of hosting a Homebrew 'competition 4 fun' this next summer. he has some land outside crabtree that would be perfect for parking/event. perhaps doing a 2day event with a barbecue ribs competition too. (harder to start I would...

Greetings from Down south! I like your hobbies, I one day will start to grow orchids myself.

What do you use to measure your gravity?

I am certain the readings would be slightly different. better quality tools yield more accurate results. However, IMO the differences aren't going to ruin anything.

    Brewpub brewing techniques

Good beer = Good beer. As a consumer I wouldn't care how it was done, as long as it is safe to drink and is good. As a small brewer going public starting with extract might be the best idea with start up cost in consideration. Long term goals would assume I would transition to AG beers -...

    New Brewer from Oregon

Greetings!! Nice and foggy day today... Oregon at its finest :)

220 volt from two 120 volt lines

You could, but shouldn't. (depends on a lot of factors if it even can be done) 240 line vs 2x120 line is purely cost. its all the same as far as wiring goes. You can even get it to code (depending on local laws) as long as you mark the wires correctly.

    cleaning these carboys

Make sure you use hot water. I tried PBW first for my carboy after a day and numerous shakes at random times, no dice. I then went to a HOT water oxiclean and it was crystal clear in less then an hour
