Christmas Ale Extract Recipe Brewed Today

Holy lord that recipe looks epic, will be saving this one for next year!

    New guy

I do hear quite a bit of support on here for using buckets and it makes sense. I went with glass before I had done enough reading as I was concerned about plastic's leaching flavors into the beer. Now I personally think that the risk associated with glass far outweighs the risk of plastics...

Yeah, I now wish I didn't have glass, but it is what it is. Might sell them and get plastic. We will see.

Raise Your Hand If Your Wife Or Husband Is Responsible For Getting You Into Brewing

Mine was a 5gal extract Deluxe kit from NB. Still working on sorting out the bits before my first brew day (yet to be determined but hopefully before the end of the month). What part of town are you in? Going to James River Homebrewer's next week?

Raise Your Hand If Your Wife Or Husband Is Responsible For Getting You Into Brewing

Her parents bought me my starter kit for Christmas this year, though I asked for it. Half a hand raise!

    Chest freezer fermentation chamber

Yep that is the current plan!

    Chest freezer fermentation chamber

The other option of bending the hump, I'm not sure that it will work as I believe it's insulated, too bad though because I have plenty of room! Also I could cut into the hump, but I'm not sure if any coolant lines run in that area. I did hook it up last night and had a frozen bottle of water...

    Chest freezer fermentation chamber

Ok some picture explanation. First the model number This is the inside with a 6 gal carboy on the hump A 5 gal carboy fits in the bottom The amount of space between the hump and the compressor So my options are to either build a collar thinking 12x1 with 1x1 supports in the corners...

Here is the freezer that is soon to be my fermentation chamber.

    Chest freezer fermentation chamber

Yep, "a deal too good to refuse" haha.

    Chest freezer fermentation chamber

11" isn't wide enough, I'm using a 6gal carboy with S airlock. Will just barely not fit in the 11" portion, will test fit again this evening and see if I just had the ribs lined up wrong.

    How tall?

Google is my friend, found so lock it up.

    Chest freezer fermentation chamber

Nope doesn't fit in the deeper section.

    Chest freezer fermentation chamber

It's a Kenmore 4.8cf (based on calculations, will post the model tonight) I'm thinking what I will do is build a platform for the deep portion to match the hump for the compressor, then set my carboy on the hump. Build a 12" collar and all should be right in the world. Then I can put my heater...

    How tall?

    Anybody?
  16. S

    Chest freezer fermentation chamber

Well I haven't done the math yet, but the deep portion is 29" deep x 16" long x 11" wide; the shallow portion is 19" deep x 16" long x 11" wide. Either way I will need to put a collar on it. I just got the starter kit and am still waiting to do my first brew, so I'm not really looking to...

    Chest freezer fermentation chamber

Just picked up my chest freezer to convert into my fermentation chamber. Will document the build here. First thing is that the deep portion isn't wide enough to accept a carboy, so will be building a collar. Just need to figure out how tall I need to make it.
  18. S

    How tall?

Ok so the chest freezer I'm using for my fermentation chamber doesn't have enough width in the bottom to accommodate the diameter of the carboy. So I will have to place it on the compressor hump. This means I will have to raise the lid like a keezer. My question is that I want to build...

    New guy

Man things get buried around here quickly haha. This weekend I made this guy: Tonight I'm going to pick up the chest freezer that is going to turn into my fermentation chamber.
