    Question on contamination

in the future though use a blowoff tube. thats all i use now cause my airlock was always blowing off, but i have never had any problems with infection due to the airlock blowing off. don't worry about it.

    Everything's ruined

I agree with everyone. i brew primarily hefeweizens and for my first couple of batches i only used an airlock, and both times the airlock blew off and painted my ceiling. anyways, i did'nt have any problems with infection or anyhting like that so i wouldn't worry about it. from now on though i...

    Stuff in airlock

You don't need to continually aerate the wart once fermentation has started. aeration is only needed to give the yeast a good start. the only thing you may want to do is occasionally rock the fermenter gently to drop any excess krausen to the bottom. but it would be a good idea however to fill...

    Thinking of changing careers.

I have to admire your ambition, i wish you the best of luck and i'm sure that if you put your mind to it you can do what ever you want in life. besides, life is what you make of it.

It's so sad when you're first brew is gone.

My first batch was a german hefeweizen, and when i reached into the fridge to crack open that last bottle it was kinda depressing cause i guess you get kinda attached to it in a way. i actually framed the info sheet that came with the kit and hung it in my brewing area, just as a reminder of my...

    Secondary necessary?

I never use a secondary. all i do is leave it in primary for 2 weeks. i've had very good results doing it this way. the only reason i would do a secondary is if i'm dry hopping.Don't get me wrong though, a secondary won't hurt anything, but it's just my preferance not to use it. I also tend to...

    Secondary Question?

I know this sounds crazy, but if your worried about there not being enough yeast then go to a store that sells childrens microscopes and check a sample of your brew. you can see the little dudes movin around. there should be around 30-50 little guys in the frame at 10 power. that will tell you...

    sticking to one style?

I just really like hefeweizens, and everyone that i gave a bottle of my last brew to thought it was some of the best beer they have ever had. i won't use the same recipe everytime but i think all i wanna brew is hefeweizens. i just kinda wanna perfect one style rather than brewing different...

    sticking to one style?

I was just wondering what ya'll thought about someone sticking to one style of beer? cause I like hefeweizens and all i seem to ever want to brew is a hefeweizen. do you guys think it's a good idea to perfect one particular style? or is it good to try different styles? I know this sounds like a...

Is this a really low starting gravity?

1.023 seems kinda low to me. the only thing i could think of is that you didn't add all the ingredients. i'm interested to know what th FG is gonna be.

    secondary Krausen? (pictures)

it's a good thing you did a secondary otherwise you might have some bombs to clean up. i wouldn'y worry.

    Time in Primary

i'm sure you'll be ok, like AXEGOD said, you can get away with letting it sit for 3-4 weeks. besides it'll give it a little extra time to clear out. no worries.

NASTY astringent taste in my first homebrew

whenever you use a sanitizer that requires you to rinse after use you'll run the risk of infection, it's rare but it is possible. try to get a sanitizer that is a no rinse product. i use star san.

    bike pump aeration

a bike pump is not needed. just splash it around a little. i can almost guarantee that your fermentation will begin within 12 hours at the most. and from my experience if your using dry yeast aeration is not as important, even though i prefer liquid yeast. good luck
