    Advice on Hefe Recipe

I really don't think you fermented too hot, I ferment my hefes at around 72 and they come out great every time. I even pitch my yeast at around 75 and I havn't had any problems with that either.

    root beer smell

I have a cornie that smelled horrible like 7-up when i got it. I used oxy-clean and let it sit for a couple of days and the smell was completly gone. it worked great.

    Honey malt question.

yeah, i also added it to my hefeweizen brew which i get to try tomorrow. i only added 3/4 of a pound to it and i'm hoping to get a nice subtle flavor from it. but i just wasn't sure how it would effect a light ale cause a light ale is very mild in flavor , color, and pretty much everything so i...

    Debris in primary?

Exactly, I've just never paid too much attention to the stuff before cause i always used a plastic bucket and i could'nt see, but now i have a glass carboy and i'm noticing all sorts of interesting stuff. I guess all it is is a piece of cold break. alright well thank you all for your help and...

    Honey malt question.

I am going to be brewing a light ale today and i wanted to add some honey malt to the recipe, but I'm not sure how much too add. i purchased a 1/2 pound of the stuff and i think it would be ok to use all of it but i'm hesitant because the LHBS said that honey malt has a very prominant flavor...

    Kegerator - finally!

Having homebrew on tap is wonderful. I had my kegerator long before i started brewing, so it came in handy when i started kegging my brew, plus i got lucky cause my father works for 7-up bottling company so he gave me a bunch of 3 gallon cornie kegs for free. your very own homebrew on tap rocks!!!

    pressure question

I totally agree. the first bottle of hefe actually tasted better than the last bottle. I go through a 5 gallon batch in a little over a week so they stay young and fresh.

    Debris in primary?

i was'nt planning on doing a secondary cause i'm making a hefeweizen and i don't like to secondary hefes but i'll be sure to leave it behind when i rack. My main concern was i just wanted to make sure i did'nt have some kind of infection, but i don't think thats the case.

    Debris in primary?

yeah, the fermentation is done. i'm at day 10 right now. the fermentation was strong and everything went fine with that. the chunk kind-of looks like yeast cake, just a more solid. it's the same color pretty much as the yeast cake it just looks like a nugget and it's floating on top of the brew...

Primary Fermentation Temp Too Cool at 63F?

what are you brewing? in any event 63 degrees is a fine temp to ferment just about any brew, however it is on the low side of acceptable fermenting temp. I think it'll be fine but i don't think you should let it get any lower.

    Debris in primary?

I just started useing a glass carboy as my fermenter and i now have the ability to view my beer as it does its thing so my question is, there appears to be a small chunk of something that looks like a wood chunk or something like that floating on the top. My first thought was that it's some kind...

    pressure question

hefeweizen is what i'm gonna be kegging. i'll leave it in the fermenter for about 12 days and then keg. the last time i made a hefeweizen i left it in th fermentor for 12 days then bottled it. 8 days later it was perfect. for some reason i get the impression that hefes don't need too much...

    pressure question

ok, i'm a guy who wants my kegged beer ready fast so my question is, I was planning on hitting my 3 gallon keg with 30 psi shaking the heck out of it and let it sit for around 12 hours or so. is this too long to let my brew sit at that pressure? if so how long should i let it sit at this...

    My very first home brew...

I have a 6.5 gallon glass carboy and two 6 gallon buckets. i use the carboy and a bucket as my primaries so i have two batches going at all times, and i keep one of the buckets open for my bottling bucket/kegging bucket. I used to bottle but now I only keg my brew.

    My very first home brew...

it's not only like this the first time you brew but damn near everytime. the wait is worth it though.

    My very first home brew...

time goes by so slow when your waiting for your first brew. the best thing to do is to brew another batch while you're waiting. it keeps your mind off the anticipation.

3 ?'s about my upcoming Hefe

if you get the german hefeweizen kit from more beer it comes with: 6 lbs bavarian (60% wheat 40% barley) .5 oz northern brewer hops 6.8 4 oz corn sugar (at bottling) I've brewed this recipe numerous times and it came out delicious every time. theres no LME and no grains. and as...
