    Thanks for the inputs guys. I'll run the hop times through QBrew when I get home, although it is floating around 72IBUs right now I would love to go higher! I used specialty grains in my last 2 brews with moderate success... I need to knock out a no fail batch to get my confidence back up...

    Drinking beer out of frozen mug

    I usually keep a couple glasses cold in the fridge/freezer. It helps when I've got a lot of people over and I'm not drinking beer very quickly (I talk a lot) to just keep it cooler longer. But I do have to agree, somewhere in the ~40-50 degree range brings out the majesty of the brew!

    Well I broke down, went the LHBS and talked to some guys down there that said yes in fact they have had the same problem with dead yeast in summer months. I grabbed a new vile of White Labs, came home and pitched it and within hours I had fermentation. So robegero, good luck to you! Thanks again...

    Thanks guys! It's my third batch and I haven't had to make starters for my others (which both turned out well). I was also concerned since fermentation started within 24 hours with both of my others. Thanks for the advice! I'll wait a while longer before pitching new yeast!

    UPDATE: After talking to some other Las Vegas Brewers, we concluded that UPS more than likely killed my yeasties. I didn't want to wait 72hrs to find out for sure so I re-pitched and within a few hours (fairly violent) fermentation began. So to be short and sweet, I'm happy again! Let me know...

    How long can beer sit in the fermenter?

    Well, I just popped a bottle of my last batch which was in primary for ~8 weeks and it was good... Really good... Only my second batch but it was exponentially better than my first.

    First Brew Alert! (And A Question...)

    Woohoo! I Cracked open a bottle a few of days ago and it was pretty good! A little lacking on flavor, but the one I had last night was better... with a little more conditioning it will probably be decent! Starting my second batch right now (Cherry Wheat).
