    Beer Club

A few buddies are talking about putting together a 'beer club' , not for homebrew per se (though I'm imagining a lot of that might get tasted . . .) Does anyone have any experience with such a club (some of the wives have a wine club, where they have food, and taste different wines -- seems...

    AM drinking...

I don't work night shift, but in bavaria, a bavarian breakfast is a half liter of Weissbier, a pretzel and two Wesswurst. Yum

    weldless

A friend has an old keg he is willing top part wtoth and I think it would be a good diy project to convert it over the holidays. Questions... If I buy weldless stainless fittings can I close to weld them later? A guy at work might be able to weld for me.

    Worth DIYing a chiller?

I'm all about the pride of having hewn my own tools out of raw materials (or something to that effect) but I'm not all that confident in my soldering skills at this point need to practice. I'll let you know what end up going with...

    Worth DIYing a chiller?

I've been perusing the DIY wort chillers tutorials (immersion for now) -- I realize that cost is not always the only reason to DIY, but copper seems MUCH more expensive these days than in the two or three year old tutorials I am reading. Should I DIY or just buy an immersion chilller @...

Planning my third brew . . . (helles)

While I work on my technique (and stash away some cash for some more advanced equipment) I've decided that I will work on my technique by brewing Steeped Grain + Extract brews in styles that I am nostalgic for, mainly UK and German styles that I cut my teeth on. I'm bottling (in the new...

    Beer Exchange

I live right near Duffy's but have never been in. I'll stop by - - by price floor I meant a minimum of $30:cool:

    Beer Exchange

Some friends of mine are hosting a Beer Exchange holiday party next weekend. I'm pretty psyched. The basic idea is that you bring a case of beer (commercial brew) something unique with a price floor of $30. If I hadn't just started homebrewing I would show up with a case of something...

    2nd batch underway - should I secondary?

Well, I've decided. I'm going to set up for a mega bottling day on New Years day (possibly the 2nd depending on how well NYE goes) and set to work bottling 10 gallons - 5 Oktoberfest which will be finishing up 5 + weeks of lagering in secondary, and 5 gallons of old ale, which will have had a...

    2nd batch underway - should I secondary?

+1 to this -- somehow I can scrub down the kitchen, boil a batch of beer, scrub everything and get it put away and the kitchen looks better than I found it. Ask me to fry an egg, forget about it, I'll make a hell of a mess. meh. on another note -- what do you think about my addition of...

    2nd batch underway - should I secondary?

You guys are too quick! I had gathered that the consensus would be to just primary and bottle. What constitutes a "long" primary?

    2nd batch underway - should I secondary?

Yeah that was dopey! Anyway . . . After all the great support and information I've gotten on the forums here my first batch of Oktoberfest that I was worried about is chilling nicely in the Ranco controlled chest freezer . . . and this weekend I decided that with a primary fermenter free I...

Time to post -- worried about my first batch.

Sounds good -- it was still bubbling up the next morning, though slowly -- I'm gonna leave it at it's current temp (around 64 right now) over the weekend and then I'll take a hydrometer reading to see how things are progressing. Thanks for all the help!

Time to post -- worried about my first batch.

After about 12 hours at 60° F I started to see some bubbles coming up. I'm planning on leaving it at this temp overnight to let things get going nicely. Do you recommend taking it back down to the recommended lagering temps after it gets started?

Time to post -- worried about my first batch.

Oh - and I have no idea what the yeast strain was . . . i tossed the packet -- next time I'll include that in my notes. Thanks for all the help!

Time to post -- worried about my first batch.

Checked the Gravity now -- 1.055 at a temp of around 57degrees. This seems to be reasonable given the instructions 1.052-1.056 The beer (sorry, wort) itself smelled fine not much going on. I know I know RDWHAHB -- unfortunately as I said this is my first batch -- RDWHASA (Sam Adams) does...
