    Man, I love Apfelwein

I'd like to make a batch of this, but the lady is allergic to sulphates. She can't drink any commercially made ciders/apple wines because of the sulphates present in the preservatives. So my question is, are sulphates produced by the fermentation process in Apfelwein? Or are they only present...

First Attempt at AG and Yeast Washing (with pics)

Here's the orange wheat after 11 days in the bottle. The bitterness I tasted on the sample I pulled on day 5 or 6 is completely gone. It tastes great now, but there is zero head retention. Looking forward to my next sampling day!

Finding 10g coolers in the middle of winter

I thought I might have some trouble finding a 10g cooler for an MLT conversion in the winter, but not being able to find one at all sucks. I went to multiple home depots, ronas, canadian tires and wal marts with no luck. You'd think someone, somewhere has a soccer game that needs a cooler full...

Right on, that makes plenty of sense. Thanks again!

    Aerating wort and starters

The idea of a starter is to skip the reproductive phase of the yeast in the primary so it can go straight to fermentation once the starter is added to the primary? There is no need for oxygen for this stage in the yeasts life cycle, which is why I was curious about aerating prior to pitching a...

    Aerating wort and starters

That's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the help and apologies if I made my first post a little unclear. Cheers!

    Aerating wort and starters

If I've read and understood the many topics related to aerating wort, the idea is to introduce oxygen to be used during the reproductive stage of the yeast life cycle. This seems to be a crucial element in getting a good, healthy and active yeast. Once reproduction ends, then the fermenting...
