    newbie cooper's kit oops?

Most of the base Coopers kits use ale yeasts, some of the high end kits use better more specific yeasts. If you are concerned about the yeast Us-05 is a god substitute. I find the Coopers yeasts take some time to clear whereas US-05 is a clean fast yeast. Billie's problem was he opened the...

    newbie cooper's kit oops?

I've done quite a few Coopers. Temps are too high try to keep under 24*c worst case under 28* You don't mention if it's an ale or lager. Ales around 18-20*c is fine . Lagers a bit cooler is better. 14 days primary Secondary optional (not really needed) Bottle 3 weeks minimum (suggest 4-5 much...

Table sugar as opposed to corn sugar

Dontman is correct the boost kit has been made to give a balance, too much dex or malt will sway the kit in one way or another. Hops on the other hand is personal taste, the problem is bitter is different for every person, i have a mate who sucks on lemons, i couldn't do that. Adding bittering...

Spraymalt or sugar and what do people think of Coopers Stout

Dextrose is a form of sugar, it makes alcohol without adding much body or flavor. DME is dried malt extract, it makes alcohol and adds body and flavor. A stout is a heavier style so will benefit from more DME, a mix of both is also fine. You could also decide to add a kilo of DME and a kilo of...

    Second Fermentation?

Fermentation does occur in the secondary, it is usually not long but i have experienced brews that have been 10 days in primary that let off C02 for a day or so, degassing slowly after racking to secondary. This is because the beer and trub does get a little bit stirred up during racking and...

    Batch Priming Scenerios

There seems to be a bit of confusion here. 1) you can rack onto fruit into a secondary 2) batch priming is the art of racking onto a sugar solution and immediately afterward bottling. It is correct that the brew wont carbonate in an unsealed or poorly sealed or weakly sealed container. If you...

    I need advice

Alpo is right, you need a scale, somewhere online there is a converter that will give you carbonation scales by volume google it.... basically it says for x?? liters(23) you will need y oz of dex in order to reach z carb level.

Table sugar as opposed to corn sugar

From what i read the cell structure of cane sugar is different that dextrose, something to do with protein chains. However i am not a scientist, i go by taste, i can taste the difference between brews with 1 kilo of sugar vs 1 kilo or dextrose, anyhow i don't use 1 kilo of either with kits, i...

Accuracy of Hydrometer reading inside Fermenter

Bang on the money Nurmey. It's an important part of brewing tasting the sample, think of it like wine tasting from the conditioning keg. You can tasted the difference between day 1 and day 10. You guys need to switch to plastic fermenters, they have a tap in the bottom so no need to baste your...

    Coopers Kit's...your secrets?

My experience with the Coopers fermenters is that they seal well, but you can Vaseline the o ring seal if there is an issue. Or use glad wrap and a rubber band with a pinhole works just as well.

First batch-SG stuck after moving to secondary

Note, for dry yeast it is common practice to re-hydrate it first, put it in a small jug of tepid water, after a while there should be a bit of activity as the yeast wakes up. Activity being a little foamy. Some then add a small amount of dex or dme to increase the cell count before pitching but...

Question on first time dry hopping

i tend to throw the hops straight in, worst case you get the odd green flake in your beer which does no damage. I think the pellets tend to break down more easily than the plugs or hop flowers, most of it will end up in the yeast cake.

Table sugar as opposed to corn sugar

No, i originally gave up HB because i was using cane sugar and the beer didn't taste good. Unfortunately Coopers kits do say to use cane sugar but your results will be average at best. I agree with all of the points in the above link but maintain that cane sugar is still "different" to...

Easy Stovetop All-Grain Brewing (with pics)

Check out this link to an Aussie forum, BIAB and cube no chill methods are common. AussieHomeBrewer.com - Ineo No chill involves draining the brew into a 15 or 20 liter cube container, squeezing the air out and sealing it for later use. This method has been used hundreds of times. Another...

Easy Stovetop All-Grain Brewing (with pics)

We use the BIAB method down under but most of the guys have a hook and tackle in the ceiling and hoist the bag up in the air, slip a bucket under it and leave it drain a few minutes. Tip the collected liquid back into the brew.
