    Choose a reverse osmosis system

Pressure gauges are cheap. If you have a tap that has a garden hose thread you can test the pressure from there. Plenty of them on amazon.

    NB - still working?

I hate being hounded like that also. What ever marketing company NB uses sure is relentless. And using the unsubscribe method doesn't work with some companies now. They know if someone clicks unsubscribe that there is a live person on the other end. Best to just mark it spam and don't use Chrome...

    Microplastics / Chloronitramide

I never gave the MNP (micro/nano plastics) issue much thought, other than we as people need to stop using/ discarding so much plastic. But reading just a little bit more about MNPs it seems the problem has already gone too far to reverse. The findings of MNPs in practically all of our food and...

    Welcome back to me?

I went to BIAB for the ease of making smaller batches. I found 5 gallon batches were getting to be too much for me and I could never toss out what I made. Even if it was "Not so good" I would still drink it and think about what I could do to make it better. I did toss one batch-Had an infection...

    New fermenter

I have a few icing buckets from Walmart. They work great for storing grain. The 3 or so gallon round ones even had a gasket in the lid. The larger rectangular shaped buckets I got from there I use for soaking and cleaning bottles. Can't beat the price!

    Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 🎁

Merry Christmas to you too! I heard this in a movie I watched and thought it was good enough to share: "May you be with people who have seen your worst and your best but don't know the difference”.

my local city water report...is this water good to use as-is?

I finally went with an RO system and adjust the salts. I used to live in an area where Lake Michigan was the water supply and the water was very good for my beers. Now I live in an area where we get our water from wells and the water is very hard. I could never make good beer from it. My Wards...

    Comments on RO System "schematic"

Can’t tell if you’re using a pressure tank. It would probably be a good idea to use one. The trickle of water from an RO system without a pressure tank wouldn’t be enough for the ice maker and the pump wouldn’t help without the tank. I did the same thing as you are doing and love it. My system...

How to Get Clear Samples for Refractometer?

I’ve never filtered the sample before but can see where fine particulates could alter the reading. Next brew I will do a side by side test with unfiltered and filtered through a coffee filter and see if there is a measurable difference. But I doubt there is going to be a big enough difference...

    Secondary

I started out fermenting in buckets and transferring to a glass carboy. That’s what the instructions said when I started long ago. A few years later a relative of mine dropped a glass carboy. Luckily he wasn’t hurt but what a mess. That scared me away from secondaries and I didn’t see any...

    $upport your local store, until....

That's not quite right either. All newer propane tanks 4-40 lbs have an OPD valve in them that shuts off filling when the tank is at capacity. The OPD shuts off filling when full and still leaves a 20% safety space for expansion. When a 20 lb tank is full it will hold 20lbs of propane and still...

    $upport your local store, until....

That’s 25% less than their capacity. (Assuming you are talking about a 20lb tank) So that would be about a gallon less propane.

Could have been a very bad situation. Could have been an over fill valve failure if it was able to get over filled. The overfill valve is supposed to shut off the filling of the tank so it isn't overfilled. Some people store their grilles and/or propane tanks in their attached garage even though...

I know there has to be room for expansion but what I mean is the exchange places don't fill the tanks as full as they are allowed. Maybe not all but that's what I read somewhere.

I read somewhere that the propane tank exchange places only partially fill the tanks anyway. To like 70%. I go to the local U-Haul to get propane.

You’re lucky. The local one here closed a while ago. Everything is mail order or a long drive.

Golden Promise full sacks on sale

I have an order started at Ritebrew now and just for kicks added 55lbs of Golden Promise to it. I attached a pdf. I live in Indiana so that is why the shipping would be less. Seems good to me.
