    Homemade Rum

You probably should have pitched with a fairly large starter to have enough yeast cells to ferment in anything resembling a reasonable amount of time. As was stated earlier, yeast don't reproduce well under high osmotic pressures, and that stuff is really high. It will probably take quite...

    blueberry concord wine???

OMFG!!! I got a hell of a lot more grapes than I was expecting. Just spent 3 hours destemming the first box and got 4 gallons of grapes out of it. Still have another box and a 15gal plastic tote to go. Don't think I'll need the blueberries to get up to 5gal.

    Ed's APFELWEIN Juice Question

I've had very good results with Aldi's juice. It's the cheapest stuff I've found yet.

    blueberry concord wine???

I just finished drinking a glass of a mini brew I did with a bottle of Welch's grape juice. Not too bad, didn't age well in the plastic juice bottle though, pretty hot and hoochy, but not bad with a little sugar to sweeten it up. I have about half a pound of wild blackberries I could throw in...

    blueberry concord wine???

I'm going to be picking an unknown quantity of Concord grapes this Saturday (a friend told me come get em before the deer do), and was just thinking, I also have a 3lb bag of frozen blueberries in the freezer. Anyone out there tried making a blueberry concord wine? If so, how did it turn out...

What to do with a bunch of grapes???

Thank you much! I was thinking along those lines (well, hadn't thought of the freezing part, good idea there!), but wasn't sure how well it would work. Have to wait till this weekend to see how much grapes I manage to harvest.

What to do with a bunch of grapes???

I'll preface this by mentioning I'm a beer brewer, I've never done wine. I just got offered a fencerow's worth of grapes by a guy at work if I come pick them. I'd like to do a batch of wine with them if there's enough (I took the offer up site unseen, but I'm told there should be at least 50+...

Problem with building ribcage IC - physics teachers?

I didn't do the math on it, and apparently over estimated the flow rate that would be generated by the temperature gradiant. I'm too poor at the moment to afford the copper tubing to make a chiller to experiment with... If the voice of experience says it isn't sufficient, I'll take your word...

Problem with building ribcage IC - physics teachers?

Seems I overestimated the flow rate a bit, I'll redact my comment so as to not lead others astray.

    I hate Craigslist

Lucky, I never find anything on CL around where I live. Lots of stuff in Chicago, but that's 100mi away...

    Kegged rootbeer not carbing?!?!

It's got several inches of headspace. I tried a bottle of Sprecher's rootbeer this weekend (Menard's has it in bottles on sale), and it seemed to have a similar carbonation level as my keg, I just don't get the creamy head... Sooooo, I guess it's not undercarbed really, just doesn't seem as...

    Kegged rootbeer not carbing?!?!

As I said, I have it at 40psi. It has been sitting at 30psi for months. I have about 30ft of line hooked to it. All the other sodas I've done (including rootbeer before) carbed up fine at 30psi. This one is beginning to drive me nuts. It doesn't foam when I poor it either, just comes out...

    Kegged rootbeer not carbing?!?!

I have a keg of rootbeer (rainbow extract) I made, oh, last fall I think. It's been under pressure the entire time in the fridge, and still has very little carbonation. I just cranked the system up to 40PSI to see if it would help, and still nothing. I know I don't have a leak, I've been...

    Energy Drink?

Be extremely carefull with the chemical additives. Especially powdered caffiene, as it is quickly absorbed through the skin and lungs and can be lethal in large enough quantities (and by large enough quantities, I'm talking 300mg is an overdose, and 2g can kill you). Any time you handle pure...

gas tubing - does it really matter whether I use braided or not?

BAD IDEA!!! I tried that with the clear vinyl hose, rated at 55PSI. At 25PSI for a month (I have mostly apple wine and soda kegged...) the tubing had swelled to nearly three times it's orriginal size and was near bursting. Replaced it with braided line and haven't had any problems.

ARGHHH! Why can't stuff be just one freakin' size?

From personal experience, I wouldn't recommend it for the gas side. Get some decent reinforced hose. The plain vinyl hose I started off with had expanded to over twice it's original size before it replaced it for fear it would burst. It only ran me about $18 for 30ft of reinforced hose.

ARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Need three FFL to barb fittings by Friday!!!

The only place locally I could find that carried ANYTHING that would connect to the ball lock fitting is the local hose supply shop, and they were out of stock on necessary pieces to put something together to get to 5/16". 1/4" they could do... It would have been a jury rigged solution...

ARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Need three FFL to barb fittings by Friday!!!

Edwort - Yes, that's what I need. MadDwarf - They need to be 5/16", the reinforced hose I have won't seal on 1/4" barbs, even with clamps. I already have a few ball locks with 1/4" barbs. Err, frustrated!! Damn tiny local brew shops with very small inventory and limited selection. Guess...
