    my home draft system

Hahaha! That's the same thing I thought. Nice looking setup. You have any pics of the fridge in the other room?

    Initial Keg Setup

It's one of the Haier 30 bottle wine fridges. We got it years ago but lately it's been just sitting in the basement unused. I think eventually I may make it into a fermenting chamber but for now it's doing a good job to keep my first keg cold. I'd read they only go down to 45* but right now...

    Initial Keg Setup

One word... Success! One month ago I pitched my yeast. Today I tasted my own first brew. I felt as if I'd walked to The Yard, my local pub, and asked for the newest IPA on tap. Citrus followed by pine with a floral aroma. A hit of smooth malt leading to a dry yet thick hoppy finish...

    Initial Keg Setup

I'm on it! I cleaned the tanks last weekend and filled the Co2 tank today. I'm going to sanitize one tank and fill it with my IPA then toss it in the fridge to cool the beer. Tomorrow I plan to force carb the first keg and next week my Amber will go into the second keg. I'll take some pics as I...

    Zero carb beer?

As for calories and alcohol content the beer is right on par with all the other low carb beers out there. About 90 calories for a 12oz bottle and low ABV at 4% or so should only yield a few grams of carbs to have to get rid of anyway. My guess is they are very careful with their wort...

    Pros and cons

I'm interested in this as well. There are a couple Nano-Breweries around town that talk about how they only bottle condition their beer, though I suspect they condition them right in the keg. Either way, there is something they personally like about how it finishes their brew. I don't imagine...

Do your under age kids drink w/you at home?

Growing up my parents never drank much of any beer but they did like their wine. I helped my dad build a wine closet and bottle racks along with a number other wine hobby related things. I also had one side of the family that never seemed to drink much of anything and the other that drank to...

What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

I'm not sure it counts as a "craft" brew but Pyramid Ales are definitely commercial nowadays. Anyway, I had a Pyramid IPA at a friends party and I've got to say it was pretty bad. I never buy Pyramid beer as I don't expect much from them, but last nights brew was definitely a C-.

    You still buy Beer

It may just be fall setting in but I'm currently buying more beer now... It seems that since I've started brewing I must try everything off the shelf to determine what the next batch may be. :)

My Brewing Can't Keep Up With Demand

Just keep it simple. Tell everyone to bring a good brew in for trade or cough up some dough. Then new people can just drop some cash while the brewers can leave a six pack and gain even more props for bringing another craft brew to try out. You are already hosting what sounds to be a great...

    Alabama...**sigh**

I'm definitely not saying I'd be vocal about brewing beer if that's where I lived. Just saying that's how I'd feel about it. I'd probably never actually tell anyone I knew that I brewed and would just quietly drink my beer and telling friends that an out of state buddy brewed up this sub 6% brew.

    Alabama...**sigh**

Sounds like all you guys in Alabama need to take a trip to Home Depot to pick up some equipment "Not for HomeBrewing"... If I lived in Alabama, screw the state, I'd brew anyway and just call it civil disobedience on my part. Prohibition is just dumb whether it's for Marijuana or Alcohol. The...

    Alabama...**sigh**

Wow... I had no idea. It's like growing your own for a lot of states nowadays. An archaic law that has no real use today. So what's worse in Alabama... Growing weed or brewing beer. ;)

Rogue Voodoo Bacon Maple Donut Beer?

Hahaha! As a vegetarian its a pet peeve when they just add bacon to an otherwise fine meal. Though most of the time the bacon is just a bandaid used to hide the shortcomings in an overly meat-centric diet, though I digress. I guess I'll have to try the brewery for myself. Because, honestly I...

Rogue Voodoo Bacon Maple Donut Beer?

The name makes it sound disgusting. Though I cringe most anytime bacon is listed. It sounds especially horrible though...

    Steeping grains

I've been steeping 8-16oz of specialty grains in a half gallon of water. I then pour it into the kettle and rinse the grains with another 1/2 gallon. I compress the grains a bit to push out some excess water and then toss the grains. I'm sure I could get more out of the grains but the guy at...

    Initial Keg Setup

My Birdman keg setup showed up last night! Everything looks great. Now I've just got to get the tank full of CO2 and clean everything for my first batches to get kegged over the next couple of weeks. Looks like I'm going to have two kegs of home brew for our annual Halloween party this year!

    Conditioning Questions

My kegs showed up yesterday so now I'm tempted to get those setup and simply fill the first keg with my IPA this weekend. That would put the beer 21 days out from pitching. It sure seems like enough based on Yooper but I also didn't pitch 240billion cells or probably get enough O2 in the wort...

    Conditioning Questions

Good points Yooper. I didn't do a starter but I'm planning on doing one for possibly my next batch. As for the other pieces I think I tagged most pretty well. I cooled the wort to just below 70 before pitching and have been fermenting at a fairly steady 67 degrees.

    Conditioning Questions

This is definitely not a question of single stage versus two stage fermentation, simply time from pitching to packaging as Frazier put it. I only racked to a secondary for practice and to get my primary open again for another batch I wanted to make. I also read the numerous threads on the...
