What to do... BIAB or build a Mash Tun?

What effect does mashing with the full volume have on ph? I've only done one extract and one biab batch. On the biab batch I used a cooler and mashed at 1.5q/pd and dunk sparged in my bk. SG came out perfect and beer turned out fantastic. Sent from somewhere using Home Brew

    Where to buy two hearted

Thanks for all the responses! I never found any close to me in va. Couldn't get the distributor there to return a call either. I didn't come home empty handed though. My swmbo found two grocery stores in Mt Airy that had it. We were taking a day trip there anyway so.....I bought three six...

North Carolina Home Brew Stuff for Sale

I went to visit my mom in tazewell va and checked Craigslist everywhere between north mississippi and there. Found a keg to make a keggle in Knoxville but it was sold by the time I got there. I'm 10 hours away or I'd definitely come check out what you've got. Good luck with the sale. Prices...

    Where to buy two hearted

It's not available anywhere close to me. On the website it shows it's available in Virginia, and I'll be going there Saturday for a week. My next brew is going to be a clone, but I'd like to have the real thing to compare with. Anyone know a good place to buy in southwest Virginia? Thanks in...

    Fermenting bucket questions

Check the number in the recycling symbol. It should also say on the bucket what type of plastic it's made from. HDPE is what you're looking for or a '2' in the triangle symbol. If the number is 1, 2, 4, or 5 it should be fine. Even the store brand buckets at lowes and home depot are food...

Odd results from last two brews

I had something very similar with my first batch. Being a newb I let my fears run out of control. They all turned out fine, no bottle bombs, no gushers. One bottle did have an odd taste but the other 47 were fine. That was with US-04 yeast. First time posting this.....RDWHAHB

First brew West Coast IPA- CO2 gone!

I have one corny keg that will bubble around the lid if pressure drops much below 8-9. I haven't tried putting pennies under the feet or bending the arms. It'll hold above 10 with no problem Sent from somewhere using Home Brew

    Salt mistake

Keep it and cook with it. Maybe use in place of other salt in a recipe?

Day 1 - In the beginning...

Op questioned temp readings through plastic vs glass. I've seen this mentioned a couple of times but don't remember a clear answer. I've wondered about this myself but haven't tested it either way. Anybody noticed beer temps being being significantly higher with plastic when using the water bath...

First All Grain - Low OG

It could if your mash temp fell low enough. Mine started at 1.040 and at the one week mark was at 1.006

First All Grain - Low OG

Recipe calls for OG of 1.039 @ 5.5 gallons. The brewersfriend calculator shows @ the correct volume you'd be @ 1.036. The larger volume seems to be half of what's missing, crush is maybe the rest. Very close and certainly not bad for a first all-grain brew with a bunch of new equipment. I...

    Keg dimensions - this style?

I bought four ball locks on eBay. They ended up being $50 each including shipping. They look well used but all the parts were there. They still had pressure, (a lot), when I got around to checking them a week or so after they arrived. Sent from somewhere using Home Brew

    Automotive evaporator / wort chiller

I also work with this stuff everyday. Specifically ice machines. After I'd though about both coils more, either one will work because they will pick up heat faster than the water can carry it away. I have a condenser coil I've been trying to find time to try out on water. It measures 12 inches...

    Automotive evaporator / wort chiller

An evaporator does in fact, absorb heat from outside the fins, and transfer it to the evaporating refrigerant flowing through the inside of the tube. The way the OP wants to move heat with this part is exactly the direction it was designed for. A condenser coil has more fins per inch usually...
