    Okay, so I still have to steep the crystal at 154 degrees for 60 minutes, couldn't I add honey malt to the grain bag I intend to use? Would that work?

    Am going to try the extract version of this, but what gives the honey flavor in the extract version? Honey malt in the all grain, but nothing of the like in the extract version. I guess I'm just confused here.

    Brewed this just to give it a try today. Used almost the exact ingredients LHBS only had hallertau hops.Probably should have adjusted for that, oh well. Partial boil, ended up with an OG of 1.045 Let's see how it tastes eh?

    I should have bought a hydrometer. My apfelwein is sitting there, no activity at all. But because the fermenter it's in is white plastic, I can't tell if it has cleared. And I really don't have a good way to take a sample. Guess I'll just wait another week or two.

    Okay, my 5 gallons of apfelwein, faithful to the original recipe except for the cote des blancs yeast, is fermenting now. Do I add these 5 gallons to the how many brewed thread now or when it's done? :mug:

    Airlock...

    I would think you wouldn't want to use Iodophor in an airlock. Is this true, or will it not be a problem?

    I filled this thing up with a bleach solution, and it's been in there for a few days. I modified the vent cap to take a grommet, and it now fits an airlock. There is a spigot on mine, I'm going to make sure I clean that extra well. And I'm just about to put a batch of apfelwein in it...

    I was worried about headspace with a 5 gallon batch of brew. Of course, I'll probably be making some apfelwein in this, so headspace shouldn't be as much of a concern. I have two of these sitting around, so i figure a good cleaning and a few parts and I'll be in business. :mug:

    Well this information is useful. I had heated the honey prior to adding it to the wort, so maybe it will add some flavor, maybe it wont. I really have a lot to learn about what will add flavor and what wont.
