Muntons Stout Best Before Jan 2010

so I've been sitting on this batch and drinking it very slowly because it pours so much dang foam. and sitting, and sitting. the other day it dawned on me. You goof, you bottled these all in swingtops. just go downstairs, and pop the top quickly on the whole batch and close it up. that ought to...

    Apples ripening at different times

No you'll be fine with the stuff from the drugstore that you put on cuts, as long as it's actually tincture of iodine. and not some colorless iodine that doesn't stain. This is the same red/orange/yellow staining iodine that I've been using for doing starch testing when checking my mash for...

    Everyday Simplest Dry Cider

I took this recipe to a local homebrew club meeting, and responses were universally positive. (and not because only nice things were being said about my beverages, I brought a beer that was tried by several of the same people who tried the cider, one of whom said it was phenolic and it might...

How much loss do you have to trub at the bottom of the fermentor

In a three gallon batch I lose about a litre to trub. I have a fine bag and use hop sacks, but otherwise pour everything into the fermenter

    2016 Hop Growing Thread

I decided to harvest this weekend. After air drying with no fan for a couple of days it's at 25 g of harvest. Not much. But I've vacuum sealed them and will freeze them. The cones really started to open up as they dried. Does anyone know how long it takes to dry cones on a perforated tray with...

Is this an American Blonde? Existential Crisis.

I think I'm going to have to get someone I trust to taste it and tell me what it tastes like to them. I know it has corn in it, but really it's only 2.5% of the grain bill. Is that even something that's going to show up from a flavour/aroma perspective?

Is this an American Blonde? Existential Crisis.

aw man, now I'm going to need more feedback on this one, concensus has been lost.

Is this an American Blonde? Existential Crisis.

thanks. my OG and my IBU were both at or just below the bottom edge of the threshold, but I don't know how much that might ding me or be picked up on.

Those were solo cups, so which of those is ping, and which is pong? They both have balls. In any case, that water should have been 3 SRM beer.

My cider tastes more like beer!

but apparently you can make a 39.5 point cider with cheap store bought juice, so who knows.

My cider tastes more like beer!

@bucketnative I guess I should chime in. I had one batch of cider that wasn't the same recipe that I would also say tasted like beer. Whatever that juice was it had some tannins and a bitterness that made me think Pilsner. Ultimately with that batch I think the problem was a lack of malic acid...

    Confession Time

I made a batch, it's probably 2 years old, I still don't like it, but it does well in competition, so i'm going to keep submitting bottles until I run out.

American Lager Pottsville Common (Yeungling Lager Attempt)

I did a batch with crystal 60 and one with crystal 85, and to me the crystal 85 tasted noticeably too dark.
