Kegged my first batch out of the Catalyst this afternoon. Color me unimpressed. There was a lot of sediment left clinging to the walls of the thing. The materiel it's made of is great, but that angle has to be steeper to be effective.
Just checking in here as I'd like this information as well. Will be in Milan in a few weeks, might be fun to check out a home brew shop time permitting.
Star San is acidic. Your tools look galvanized. Personally I'd toss the batch. Better safe than sorry with a case of zinc poisoning. YMMV.
EDIT: Misread. Yeah, you probably leeched some zinc of in to your sanitizing solution, you'll be fine. You wort will be fine. I may not be fine.
I thought about taking out the ball and spring, but once it was explained that it was there to keep me from getting a face full of boiling wort, I decided to leave it. Burns suck.
Making mine out of maple. Started with a scrap of 6/4, planed it, ran it through the CNC. Will finish it up when I go back to work. Only treatment it's getting is the hot wort.
I still have 3 MR Beer LBK's that I've picked up at Goodwill, yard sales, etc. Now and again I feel like making a small batch of cider or wine. They work great for that sort of thing.
Mine is bog simple to figure out. It's one of a small group of radio callsigns that I use to identify myself, depending on where in the world I am or what I'm doing at the moment.
Speaking of a hops basket, what do you think of using something like this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-Inch-New-Stainless-Steel-Mesh-Strainer-Spice-Tea-Ball-Tea-Infuser-Filter-E014-/332049102110?hash=item4d4fab351e:g:x1QAAOSwqBJXUDTN
