True Brew Nut Brown Ale - Final Gravity Question, and maybe infection?

I put one in the fridge last weekend and cracked it open on Tuesday night. Was pretty damn good. Had a nice flavor and was carbonated, but didn't have much head at all. Of course I poured very slowly (to avoid glugging and stirring up the sediment at the bottom) and my fridge is VERY cold...

    Coopers brewkit instructions seem wrong...

Take another gravity reading in a day. If it's still 1.013, then should be safe to bottle. If it moves, wait until the gravity doesn't change over 2-3 days. Or if you're really patient, just wait a few more days. My first batch i just waited 3 full weeks before bottling. From what i've...

    Is this normal?

Yeah, I've only used it once and it did that wobbling the very first time i used it. I put 1.5 gallons of water in it. I just finished a batch with it and I was able to keep it from boiling over. Just can't imagine the wobbling is normal..

True Brew Nut Brown Ale - Final Gravity Question, and maybe infection?

Thanks, that's what i've seen suggested and is how I plan to proceed as well.

    Pre-Second Brew Questions

Hi All, First, i want to give sincere thanks for previous advice. My first batch of Nut Brown Ale is conditioning right now. Should be ready in a couple weeks. I tasted it before bottling and it tasted very good. so i'm moving on to my second batch, a vanilla bourbon porter recipe i...

True Brew Nut Brown Ale - Final Gravity Question, and maybe infection?

Did you have a comparable level of sludge to my picture?

True Brew Nut Brown Ale - Final Gravity Question, and maybe infection?

It's funny, I'm going through all the same stuff. here's a couple pictures of one of mine where you can see the sludge: Before anybody yells at me, this is the ONLY one in a clear bottle. I just wanted one in a clear bottle so i could see the true color and clarity of them as they...

Where did you get the vanilla beans?

True Brew Nut Brown Ale - Final Gravity Question, and maybe infection?

This probably wont answer your question, but I made the same exact thing on 12/30 and my gravity is right around 1.015-1.016 as of an hour ago. In all likelihood i will bottle tomorrow night. Maybe that kit is just a little off on the final gravity? As far as infection, have you tasted it...

    Finished First Brew, couple questions

Update in case anyone's curious: Almost a full 3 weeks out and I cracked it open for the first time, took a gravity reading and it came out right around 1.015-1.016. The recipe book says final should be 1.012-1.014. My OG was right on target at 1.050. should i check it again tomorrow or am...

    Vanilla Bourbon Stout

Oh, and I would probably not do the oak chips, personally. I just think that might make for too many flavors going on. a bourbon vanilla porter is already going to have a lot of different things going on. Just my 2 cents.

    Vanilla Bourbon Stout

Im interested to hear how this turns out for you. This beer is next up for me. Already have everything but the vanilla beans. One process question i had was the order of bucket vs carboy. I was thinking it might be handy to primary in my carboy, then secondary with the bourbon and vanilla...

    Possible Fermentation Fail?

I'm a total noob as well, but I've seen it said repeatedly said here that bottling after 1 week without doing the gravity readings is the best way to create exploding beer bottles. I"m sure others will say this, but you should take gravity readings 3 days in a row and bottle ONLY if the gravity...

    Finished First Brew, couple questions

In case its important the temp on the side of the bucket has been between 68 and 70 every time I've checked it.

    Finished First Brew, couple questions

Thanks everyone. You're right, the hardest part now is being patient. I'm a little worried about the yeast as I used the dry muntons that came with the kit and not sure I followed the directions correctly. Its been a little over a week now and the airlock bubbling stopped after about 2 days...

    Finished First Brew, couple questions

Hi guys, I put my first brew into fermenting bucket last night and just had a couple questions after the experience. First is that when I put my brew kettle on the stove (a 20 quart stainless steel one I bought at my local brewshop), it was literally rocking back and forth. Should I be...

    Monster Brew Gold Kit

Thanks guys. So to be clear, when you sanitize with star san (i'm thinking of getting a spray bottle and putting it in there), you just spray it all over everything that comes in contact with the cooled wort and let it air dry? Or when you say it works best when wet, you mean you spray the...

    Monster Brew Gold Kit

I just got this same kit and had similar questions. Two things I'm not sure I'm clear on: Starsan and C-brite serve the same purpose? Or are they different? "Sanitize!" seems to be a common priority for everyone. Does that just mean wash everything really well with Starsan or C-brite, then...
