High Gravity BIAB Electric Brewing System

I also have a high gravity system, but only for a couple of months. My brew day is about 3 hours now. I love it and would recommend it. I didn't have the skill set to build my own. I know alot of people say it is t a great value based on cost of parts, but it is a great value compared to...

    My Fermentation Chamber Build

The insulation panels are the same kind they use on the exterior of homes beneath the siding. I used 1 inch panels with a rating of R3. The two inch panels are ar10. My basement stays around 75 and my chamber needs to be at 65 so I didn't think I needed the 2 inch. I may add another layer of...

    First Brew day (BIAB)

My biggest mistake when switching to single vessel BIAB after a 3 tier system was not adjusting for grain absorption. I had way too much water and it was diluting my wort and the OG was low. I adjusted my numbers after some advice from people on this forum and actually hit 78% efficiency on...

    My Fermentation Chamber Build

I can't tell if your post is satirical, or if there is genuine enthusiasm there. Either way, :rockin:

    My Fermentation Chamber Build

Bought a 4.5 cubic foot mini fridge on craigs list. Original reason for buying it was so I could use some Lager yeast. After that, I was reading about yeast temperatures, and all the pros say fermentation temperature control is the #1 thing you can do to improve your beer after you have a...

    BIAB Efficiency - 40%?

Well I know what I started with water volume wise. I didn't look exactly at what my post-mash pre-boil volume was, or what my post-boil volume was exactly. I think all I can do is really use math to estimate and go from there. Obviously if I want to be exact in my...

    BIAB Efficiency - 40%?

Looks like I have a few things going on here. So I changed my calculator to use the .08 instead of .2 for absorption rates. Left my starting water amount as is, and that shows I started with a boil volume of 8.18 gallons. With a 60 minute boil that means I had 6.68 gallons of wort at the...

    Hello from Iowa

Welcome, Johnston here. We have a pretty good shop in Des Moines. I spend way too much time/money at Beer Crazy.

    BIAB Efficiency - 40%?

I started with 9.3 because grain absorption was estimated at 2.8 gallons (.2 gallons per pound of grains). My boil amount ended up at 6.5 gallons. I etched in water marks on my kettle with the vinegar/9v battery/qtip trick.

    BIAB Efficiency - 40%?

Not sure what you mean. The wort when I took my reading was 65 degrees. Here is a screenshot of what I entered into Brewers Friend. Am I entering a value in wrong?

    BIAB Efficiency - 40%?

When I took the measurement it was 1.05. I must not be using Brewers Friend calculator correctly, because that is where I got my numbers from.

    BIAB Efficiency - 40%?

    I'm using a High Gravity BIAB set up, click here to see. Just today I ran this recipe: Amount Fermentable PPG °L Bill % 11 lb American - Pale 2-Row 37 1.8 73.3% 1 lb German - Munich Light 37 6 6.7% 1 lb American - Carapils 33 1.8 6.7% 1 lb British Light Crystal 35 10 6.7% 1 lb Corn...

Question Relating to Ventilation (CFM) Requirements

It is a rectangular hood, think of something you'd see over a normal stove in your kitchen, just vented outside. There is a little gutter, but the moisture collects everywhere. The moisture that collects on the fan housing itself is what drips into the kettle. Most of the moisture...

Question Relating to Ventilation (CFM) Requirements

Hi All, Recently built my indoor electric brewery, went with a BIAB solution from High Gravity. The heating element is 4500 watts, so I think I need 255 CFM (based on Kal's article http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/ventilation). I didn't really read into it too much before doing my...

    Another Basement Brewery Build

I was just thinking to myself the other day, there has to be a better way to clear my pump lines than doing a quick disconnect over a bucket.

    Hello From Iowa

Thanks, I'm pretty happy with how everything turned out. Just had a utility sink installed on Monday. I live in Johnston, just north of Des Moines. It wasn't really with the basket swaying, but I was doing a 5 gallon batch with about 16 pounds of grain, it was extremely hard to pull it up and...

    Show your BIAB Stand/Set up

Sorry for shaky pictures.. still getting used to the camera on my phone. So here is my set-up. All ready to stay nice and warm inside when the winter comes. At first I had just a single pulley, but man those grains are crazy heavy and on my first batch with this system I made...

    Hello From Iowa

Long time lurker here, just recently signed up. Thought I'd say hello and introduce myself. I started brewing about 5 years ago with a neighbor. He bought the equipment and I would buy the ingredients. Moved away and took a few years off, but my wife bought me one of the starter kits and...
