Sweet Stout Narwhal's Lactation (Chai Tea Milk Stout)

I never did it in secondary, because I was worried about it being sanitary. I've done it where I soak the bags in the wort between mash and boil, and I've done it at flame out (as you would do hops at flameout). Neither of those other two methods really pulled in the flavors. Mashing...

Sweet Stout Narwhal's Lactation (Chai Tea Milk Stout)

I started brewing when I was really into stouts. My favorite stout at the time was Left Hand Milk Stout and Breckenridge Vanilla Porter. Breckenridge was a little bland, and Left hand was just missing something. I tasted a Russian Imperial Stout that had a little bit of Chai flavor and knew...

    IPA Grain Bill Question

Yes gravity hit the mark. To reiterate it is still a great beer, just not crisp like the commercial.

Oatmeal Coffee Milk Stout - First Recipe Design

I use Oatmeal in all of my stouts, love what it brings to the table. I have a great Milk Stout that I use it in.

    Do you enjoy Pumpkin Beer?

Rock Bottom Brewery makes a decent pumpkin ale. I make a point to go there once every fall for dinner so I can get a couple glasses. They do a cinnamon/sugar mix on the rim of the glass, maybe thats why I like it? I isn't a beer I'd want to waste one of my tap lines on, but I'd be lying...

    Anyone in Des Moines?

None of my friends home brew, but they love to drink my beer. I try to talk with them about the process but I can tell they aren't interested so I abandon the conversation. Anyone here live in the Des Moines Iowa area? Would love to grab a beer some time and shoot the ****.

    IPA Grain Bill Question

I think the IPAs I make taste great. It wasn't bad, this was just the first clone that I made and the difference was noticeable. My wife (who isn't an IPA fan) also was able to spot it. Was more curious than anything what the driver of this difference was. I honestly don't know about my...

    IPA Grain Bill Question

I made a clone of Stone Ruination 2.0. The hop flavor/aroma is spot on. I don't think I could get it closer. But when you drink it, there is a distinct difference. It is hard to explain. When you drink the Stone, you can tell where the malt flavor ends and where the hop flavor begins...

Oatmeal Coffee Milk Stout - First Recipe Design

Agree with the above posters on everything except black patent malt, love that stuff. I have a sick Chai Tea Milk stout that it accounts for about 5% of the grain bill. It adds a little flavor that I love.

    My first bad brew day

Well this weekend I had a great brew day. Kegged up my new wheat beer recipe (delicious). Took an FG reading on the IPA from the first post, and gravity reading was at 1.12, so even though the starter was weak I'm getting enough fermentation, dry hopped it today. The Galaxy and Lemondrop...

    My first bad brew day

In total, I've been brewing about 2 years. Adding up all the times i've started/stopped. I've never had a bad day of brewing. That all ends on one fateful day in September. It all started on Thursday. Long read, you won't get any of your time back so just click the back button on your...

Interesting.. I guess I found my next DIY project after my magnets arrive for my stir plate. Nice thread, thanks for the idea.

    My DIY Whirlpool Arm

I have a sanitary question on this. I use my pump to circulate the hot wort during mash process. How are you sanitizing the pump/lines after mash to do this post boil?

    Did my fermentation stall?

Just an update. Took a gravity reading today after 4 days in secondary. Small layer of yeast on the bottom and it did fall to 1.02. Tasted better than it did at 1.03, little less sweet. Kegged it up and cranked the air pressure.

    Stone Go To IPA clone

I did brew an all grain version of the recipe and it wasn't even close. Double the bittering hop, and reduce the late hop additions. The recommendations heRe end up as a fruity, cloudy pale ale. Not a horrible beer but nothing like go to.

    Did my fermentation stall?

Two weeks ago (9/5/15) I brewed my milk stout. I've tweaked the recipe a lot over the last 5 times I've made it. Here is the recipe, I call it "Narwahl's Lactation". 8 lb British Pale Morris Otter 2 lb Victory Malt 1 lb Black Patton Malt 1 lb Flaked Oats 1 lb Chocolate Malt 1 lb dextrose...

High Gravity BIAB Electric Brewing System

Again, spoken from someone who personally owns a HG system and uses it to brew 5/6 batches a month - it works great. No speculation needed... and no it isn't over priced for someone like me who does not have the skill set to build their own. They provide a service, and for that service the...

    My Fermentation Chamber Build

Ya, I am going to plug the Ranko into a surge protector instead of directly to the fridge. When the power kicks on it will turn the fan on too.
