    Maris otter - Cascade smash

I had an unfortunate accident the other day and lost a nearly full keg of tropical lager. My beer fridge is outside on a patio and the wind blew a picture off the fridge striking the tap handle. Talk about bad luck. Anyhow now I am down to just one beer on tap that I really don't like. I want to...

    Coconut porter problem

I ended up putting a half bottle of BlackBerry extract I had from another beer. I wish I knew why the coconut killed the flavor of the porter. Its as if I diluted it with a few gallons of water.

    Coconut porter problem

I made Austin homebrews all grain coconut porter recently and it has no flavor. After primary it tasted amazing but after secondary and the coconut it has hardly any flavor and no Coconut flavor at all. The recipe called for the coconut in secondary for about 4 days but since I couldn't taste it...

    Tampa pet friendly

Heading to Tampa this Friday and Saturday to go to cigar city brewery and Tampa bay brewing in ybor city. Wondering if anyone can recommend any other good microbreweries or beer bars that are pet friendly. We are traveling with a small dog and are staying near cigar city.

    Too hot to brew?

I just mashed in and it's already 92 and very humid in my garage. Before I'm done it should be about 100 with the burners going and I'm running a commercial icemaker to get ice for chilling. I can't even cool off in the pool, it's 91.

    Water calculations and ph

Just wanted to say thank you again for the help. I just poured a tall sample of the rye ipa and it's delicious. One of the best beers I've ever made. From now on I will be using distilled water with adjustments, it's definitely worth the extra effort.

    Chilling with ice

I used my regular tap water to chill down to 140 degrees. I collected the 20 gallons of water and used it to water plants or dump in my pool. I had a small 12 volt bait pump for fishing and I stuck that in my igloo 5 gallon cooler filled with ice and a little bit of water. Irie circulated that...

    Making a fridge colder

My fridge does not have the condenser on the back. The rest of it sounds too complicated for me I guess I'll just have to live with it the way it is.

I decided to use distilled water. I'm mashing right now. It sucks to have to haul 10 gallons of water and spend an extra $10 but I think the quality of the beer will be worth it.

    Making a fridge colder

My kegerator is a standard fridge on the bottom with a freezer on top. I keep it outside in my screened patio that can heat up over 90 degrees. At the coldest setting my beer pours at 41-42 degrees. In the Florida heat that means a pint gets warm really fast. I would like to try an external...

    Water calculations and ph

I feel like I'm being a huge pain in the butt so I apologize. I just unchecked the box under acid additions that says specify acid by target mash pH. Now I needed to add 4 ounces of acid malt to get my mash ph to 5.43. That was with the original mineral additions i already had in there. Am I...

    Water calculations and ph

I just removed all mineral adjustments and the pH still shows 5.4 it didn't change it at all. The only thing that changes it is if I add a minimum of 6 ounces of acid malt. I am obviosly doing something wrong but I can't figure it out.

    Water calculations and ph

4 grams of calcium is a lot? I thought it wasn't much at all. I have acid malt but when I added a small amount in the program it dropped the ph too low. I can't figure out how to post the grain Bill from my phone and I'm not near a computer.

    Water calculations and ph

I am getting ready to do a rye ipa using 100 percent distilled water. This my first time using the brewers friend water calculator. I picked the light colored and hoppy water profile and it looks like it wants 7 grams of gypsum, 4.3 of Epsom salt, and 4 of calcium chloride. It says my mash ph...

    Chilling with ice

I think I'm switching back to pumping ice water through the chiller. Heading over to harbor freight soon to look for a pump I do have a pretty powerful submersible pump but I imagine reducing that down to my size size would be a pain in the butt.
