That's more of a leap than a step!

Big Pallet O' Grain (and hops)

I'll play too..... Guess I need to get that grain mill I've always wanted now........

Bayou Classic 44 Qt SS Stockpot

I have three of the 62qt variety. Like Jekster, I would buy them again without giving it a second thought. Mine came from here http://www.patiolover.com/products.php?pid=77716490

    Brewing Salts with PH 5.2?

That could be. Either that, or I shouldn’t have been messing with making my own water. :) I guess I should qualify what I said above with my observation from brewing with you this weekend....... I don't know if this is an endorsement for 5.2 stabilizer, or an indicator that there's...

    Brewing Salts with PH 5.2?

I'm wondering the exact same thing.... I'm currently under the impression that if you're building your water profile correctly for the beer style that you are brewing that session, that your special water + that particular blend of grains = the perfect mash pH all by itself... In other...

    Aggieland Get Together

There was a little bit of envy in the air even if you were there. :) Lil' Sparky has a great setup, a great backup setup, and most importantly, brews a mighty fine beer! Thanks again for sharing the experience!

    &^$% code enforcement

That was hilarious Cap'n! There's probably good money to be made with your excellent bi-lingual skills......

If I burn down the house, SWMBO wont let me brew...

I started out with the intentions of using a computer power supply as a "temporary" solution on the fermentation cabinet I built. It's still there. :) I had found the same link above when I was trying to figure out how to get mine to work. I'm sure that way works fine and is nice and...

    Centennial hops "aroma"

Don't get me wrong, I'm not doubting the magnifigance of any particular hop strain... :) This bag was just considerably more pungent than the rest. The Hallertauer on the other hand, was heavenly... Since this was my first venture into bulk hops, I just wanted to try and determine if...

    Centennial hops "aroma"

LOL... I won't make any claims of smelling like a rose today, but this was definitely coming from the hops bag.

    Centennial hops "aroma"

So I got a shipment in from Freshops.com and have been breaking it out into smaller bags for long term storage.... This is my first time to have multiple hops around at one time to compare with one another. I've enjoyed up until I got to Centennial. It has a very strong odor... Typical...

Dispencing from the top of a keg

Cool project! Very inovative! I haven't quite scrounged up enough parts to switch to kegging yet, so my question that follows is not backed by any experience whatsoever, so be gentle on me.... It is a little off-topic, but stems from reading this thread and the problem at hand. I know that...

    The hop shortage

Hi all, just an FYI... I had emailed hopsdirect with a couple of questions and received an reply tonight saying that they are currently conducting an inventory and fulfilling their contractual obligations and that they're very limited as far as stock goes. They did say to check back on...

    The Fermoire

Short of something drastic happening, this will probably be my last update on this project, but I wanted to give one last report. I'm about to rack my first batch to a secondary and plan on brewing another 5g batch later today. I haven't bought the hardware to finish up my other two chambers...

    The Fermoire

Thanks, and likewise! I was pondering porting my website to the outside world like you've done.... Got an out of town trip coming up, so it'd be nice to see what's going on. I'll have to train the cat to do my ice swaps though in case I see a problem. :)

    The Fermoire

I finally got to brew again this weekend! So far, the cabinet has done very well. I'm attempting to hold this batch at 68F. I pre-chilled the cabinet with about six 2-liter ice bottles (4 in the water, 2 in open air). That got the cooling water down around 40F. Once I was ready to put the...

    White water (no rapids)

Ok, I fell better then... Thanks for the peace of mind! RO = Reverse Osmosis... Pretty close to distilled, but I can get it easier in 5 gal containers here than distilled. The shop I buy from claims 5 ppm total disolved solids on their RO, so that's reasonably close to ion-free.

    White water (no rapids)

I did my first attempt at making my own profiled water from RO + salts today... I used BreWater 3.0, set it for 10 gal, used ion-free as my start, and Dublin as my target since I was brewing a stout. I used a scale with 1/100g accuracy and wound up with a collection of salts that was probably...
