Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Useless in what way? Are you interested in the estimated %abv? If so probably so although depending on if you used a kit you could probably guestimate the beginning gravity reading and be in one ball park or another depending on if from a kit and the estimated numbers were provided. With some...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

With proper temps 2 week has been plenty for me in primary. Have checked with refractometer has indicated stable gravity readings usually after about 10 days with most normal gravity ales for me. I have gone to 3 weeks a couple of times but think that was probably over kill and basically...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

I have used the 2-2-2 method faithfully and have never had a not carb. enough problem. If anything some of them have seemed over carbed when first opened. Bottling with PET bottles and when they are hard to the 'squeeze test' that should indicate that they are carbed. 2 weeks in primary, 2...

    Speidel Plastic Tanks

Not a big problem. The tap will stop flowing before you reach the thick trub. If you must you can squeeze every last drop out by tilting the mostly empty fermenter but you will have to be fast to stop before the gunk starts coming out into your bottle. If you plan to harvest the yeast that...

    Speidel Plastic Tanks

I always figure on that 'little' and let it run into a glass. Usually don't amount to much and then all is relatively clear. I let the glass sit a bit and usually sample the top 3/4 of it and toss the rest. Gets my hopes up for how good the batch might end up. :ban:

    Speidel Plastic Tanks

I have been bottling this way for over a year. I disassemble the spigot assy and clean and sanitize before attaching and filling the Speidel. I then spray the spigot with sanitizer, soak a small piece of paper towel in sanitizer and twist it up into the spigot with a bit outside of it. I then...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

I've heard of the 2-2-2 rule but must tell you I have never heard anyone refer to the 3-2-2 rule. In fact Palmer says that you should move the primary off the yeast cake after the fermentation phase is finished......2 weeks normaly.

Just in Hop Sale by the pound

One of the best deal on pellet hops I've seen in my relatively short stint homebrewing. I just picked up 2lb of Wilmette a week ago from them so I am good to go. I'll prob regret not loading up at this price but I don't want to get loaded down with them rite away. :ban:

    Speidel Plastic Tanks

When I missed out on re-ordering one last summer I clicked on the 'notify me when back in stock' button and thought I was good to go. In talking with customer support subsequently on another order being processed I mentioned something concerning their inventory control software system and was...

I'm switching to Better Bottles GRAPHIC

Glad it was not worse for you. Many years ago I was making home made wine. At the time I had easy access to almost free glass carboys and picked up 3 of them. After I finished my urge to make wine I just stuck em in the corner of the basement. Once setting up to do all plastic beer...

    Speidel Plastic Tanks

Interesting. I had done what I thought was a pretty thorough search 6 months ago for other suppliers and came up empty. Possibly I just ignored any finds outside of the states. It would be interesting to know what the shipping and added costs of the non included parts would add up to. I have...

    Speidel Plastic Tanks

I hadn't thought of that. But you got my thought process churning. I now have the capability of doing 2 5gal batches at the same time. If I decide I absolutely must have 3 batches it would allow me to top em pretty much off and go the blow off tube route through the top spigot with some...

    Speidel Plastic Tanks

Approx 9" from the 5gal mark to the top thread of the top cap opening. On another note, just saw on homebrew finds that the smaller 3.2 gal size sold out in 2 1/2 hours. And that as of today the 7 1/2 gal size is also sold out. No word whether that is their entire stock or if more will be...

Sorry if it was taken as shouting wasn't meant that way. Knew that I bold'ed the replys and did so to make the reply set out from the quoted part. Will refrain on it in the future if that is frowned upon or not the accepted way to do so. As for text size.......I don't see it at my end. Not...

    Speidel Plastic Tanks

It has always been a 1 step process for me. As stated elsewhere an initial 4oz or so draw clears the small amount of trub which may have found its way into the spigot. From that point almost complete emptying of the speidel into bottles is possible and even to the point of tipping the unit...

    Speidel Plastic Tanks

Each to his/her own. One bad batch from any of the 'problems' you site after labling the buckets as good as anything out there would cover the xtra cost of the speidel ( infection, leakage, low headspace replacing smaller bucket with larger size. To me it was well worth the extra cost but...

    Speidel Plastic Tanks

Not any that I have found but I did make a mistake of cleaning with too hot water setting in the tank. No lasting effects but something I won't attempt again. I laid the container on its side with very hot water inside to soak and could see the effects of hot water on the side of the tank when...

I am sorry to hear about the misfire you mentioned. Just to weigh in on the other side.......I have made several orders in the past year with morebeer and have been 110% satisfied. Quick order fulfillment, fast delivery even on their lowest tier of shipping, great after order updating of...
