Champagne Yeast abv with no sugar added

I am not sure just what you are after. I have had hard cider at a local Orchard that has it for on site consumption or take home....along with wines. The stuff was great and 2 glasses of it had me wondering what the heck the ABV% was because I could feel it.......and then some. If it was me I...

    Bass Pro Shop Sale...inc Burners

That is exactly what I did. I added a 4 gallon stainless rite away and although it was fine for 2 1/2 gallon batches and for heating water and doing the grains it was obviously too small for the larger batches. Enter 7 and 10 gallon aluminum pots which work great.....all on the same original...

    Bass Pro Shop Sale...inc Burners

Agree. I don't use the pot for beer although could use it for sparge or partial. But it doesn't go to waste. I have done small shrimp boils and various stews, chiles and things like that in it. I don't get a chance to do many fish frys and don't really care for hot oil over open flame anyway...

    Bass Pro Shop Sale...inc Burners

Just got an email from Bass pro shops. They are having a $5 flat rate shipping sale with no minimum purchase. For anyone interested in a entry level burner they have their fish fry unit for $39. It sits low to the ground 18" off the ground and they say it is a 58,000 btu burner. Has nice gas...

    Cooling the wort

This is pretty much the Mr Beer method for 2 1/2 gallon brewing. they boil 1 or 2 quarts of water. Add the sugar enhancer, pull from the burner add the liquid hopped malt. Put cold water into the fermenter and add the wort, pitch the yeast into the already cool wort. I actually got to the point...

New to the site and first brew attempt

I am no expert but in my case once the reading got down in the ballpark I would pay more attention to if it stops dropping appreciably rather than looking for some reading which may or may not ever be reached. Once the readings stop falling everything I have read says you should be able to...

At least you found 1 thing good about that beer. Every time I try one of their offerings I have to remind myself........never again. But that is just me

New to the site and first brew attempt

My carbing step got better results once I started weighing the sugar rather than just measuring it. Not sure it is a whole lot difference but makes me feel better about the process.......more precise.

Ya gotta smile at a boil over out of doors. What else you gonna do but pay better attention to the pot. When you do it on your wifes stove inside......not too many chuckles to go around..........:smack: Depending on how you feel about cleaning up messes you either pay more attention to the...

New to the site and first brew attempt

I am doing the 32oz pet plastic bottles and I picked up some of the plastic milk crates from walmart. Caught em on sale. I think they were something like $3.50 a piece but I have seen em cheaper at beginning of school buying season in the fall. Make sure and check the height for stacking. My...

New to the site and first brew attempt

I bought one of the cheap turkey fryer burners and luckily got one without the timer. Bought the same unit as a gift for someone else and they started talking about having to 'figure out the timer' and I didn't have a clue as to what they were talking about. Glad I avoided that. Mine cost me $39...

You are well on your way. Trying to cool the boiled wort can be a challenge (and a pain). Once I borrowed and used an immersion chiller I knew I had to have one. It just made things so simple. Especially if you have a well water system which delivers the cooling water at a good temp year around...

    Niko Brew Spring sale Hops

Glad to be of help. I've been brewing for a year with 2lbs of Willamette that I got from them a little over a year ago on one of their sales. Had just been thinking about watching for some more and getting a bit of variety......on the nose their sale popped up and I also jumped on it. Course...

Advice needed on Hops plants prep for season

Other than the root ball question that is about what I was thinking on doing and wanted confirmation which you provided. No dividing the roots this time around. Will just take what we can get and work from there. Absolutely no idea what type of hops the plants are. Not sure if a nursery could be...

Advice needed on Hops plants prep for season

Hi All I am looking for some info on how to prepare some older hop vines for the season. Someone just offered me the proceeds of their established hop plants at a new residence they just obtained. No one trimmed them back before winter. Here in Michigan the frost is still in the ground but...
