    Yeast pitch rate for cider

One pack for 5gal. It would be so much over kill and way yeasty if you did 5. The guy who said 1 pack per gallon was wrong.

    pimp my kit

Keep it simple and light. Focus on the temp to get a crisp smooth lager. That's how I brew them. You'll notice how smooth they are compared to an ale. Peace

Fermentation slowed way down after 1 week.

I bet it's fine. Taste it to see if there's good alcohol. Then buy a hydrometer

Fermentation slowed way down after 1 week.

When I do a gallon using the same stuff you described it's usually done fermenting in 3 or 4 days. Did it bubble? Check gravity

    First hard cider of 2013

Hello Everyone, Just bottled my first 1gallon batch of hard cider. Excited to try it. I have brewed a lot of hard ciders over the years and have only been pleased with a couple. After reading a forum last year of a guy saying he didn't see a big difference from orchard cider to store bought...

Can you detect off-tastes before bottling?

Yes, You will be able to taste any off flavors that might happen from what you wiped off the pot. I wouldn't use it again. Also probably bad for the body. What was on the cloth from wiping out pot could be oils from a cheap metal. Peace

    Hello from Maine

Hello, I'm in Portland , Maine. Good to see this post. Basically you can take anything with sugar in it and make alcohol. I brew beer 90% of the time but I also do some meads and I have a red wine going right now from Welches grape juice. Really not that bad. Also I do a lot of ciders this time...

    First batch of cider

I think you will be disappointed with the outcome because your using motts. I would only use fresh apple cider. That's just my opinion.
