6 taps of German bier for 40th

They had Pilsner Urquell and I think Hoffbrau, and lots of German wine and schnapps, but most beer was Sprecher's quite well done beers and it's apparently Leienkugel's 150th anniversary so they did something for the occasion.

6 taps of German bier for 40th

Recipes for potato pancakes sometimes do/sometimes don't include sour cream. They're definitely better WITH the sour cream. Give 'em a try next time you have leftover potatoes. If you have a smoker or access to a smoker, a pork butt cooked to 180-190 (not quite to fall-apart pulling temp)...

6 taps of German bier for 40th

I just went to Milwaukee's awesome German Fest last night for German-style beer, sausages and pretzels. Your lineup looks great! Ever have potato pancakes and applesauce? It's one of my favorites at German Fest and Oktoberfest but I get that it might sound weird.

    Don't Do That.

Ah, whenever I get shrimp that hasn't been deveined, I always pull out that line from Tommy Boy while I'm cleaning them: "Jeez, why do you always have to de-turd these things? Oh look - they must have caught this guy right after Thanksgiving dinner."

    Don't Do That.

I did that once when I was first married. (I really am a good cook, honest!) didn't realize the error until they were on the plates and on the table. Can't remember what was on the shrimp, but it was messy peeling them.

How to stop teenagers begging for beers

As long as these young people are of legal age, "Want a beer? Mow my lawn." "Want a beer? Wash my cars." "Want a beer? Clean my gutters." "Want a beer? Take this to the Post Office and on your way back, pick up my dry cleaning, stop at the grocery store and get everything on this list...

What did I cook this weekend.....

So after a week on vacation and stuffing our faces with seafood, beer and meals that ... well, were wonderful but not our usually healthy meals, I tried something I've wanted to experiment with before our garden veggies are ready: grilled ratatouille. I folded a pan out of heavy duty aluminum...

Kegs sat at room temp for 3 days. Am I screwed?

Commercial kegs are subject to far worse treatment on their way from the brewery to the distributor to the bar. Your kegs are fine.

The other side of SWMBO's family lives in Oklahoma. Holy crap, the quality of the beef down there ...

What did I cook this weekend.....

No kidding. Friday my BIL and new SIL (we're here for their wedding) went to the docks - not the grocery store, not the fish market - but literally to the docks to wait for the boats to come in and got the scallops and lobsters and clams. Fresh as can be. SIL prepared the scallops simply -...

What did I cook this weekend.....

And good beer. Yesterday I was drinking Allagash at the Portland Sea Dogs game (AA Red Sox affiliate), followed by a flight of NEIPAs at a stadium area bar and a wild sour from Allagash.

The thought is driving me nuts

But if you purge the keg, you'll blow off hop aroma in the process.

The thought is driving me nuts

It was probably CO2 but, even if it was room air, it doesn't sound like enough to do any harm. I bet it's fine.

    Forgot the baking soda

Not much to do about it now, but how did you calculate 8 grams? That sounds like quite a lot.

What did I cook this weekend.....

I eat/cook a lot of seafood and I literally live on the shores of the largest system of freshwater lakes on the planet where we have access to lots of good seafood ... ... but I just spent a week in New England and ... holy s*%#, I have never had such flipping fabulous seafood ever in my life.

What book is on your nightstand? Readers!

So I post often in the cooking/BBQ forums because I love to cook. I grew up in a family with lots of good cooks and I was always welcome to help out in the kitchen when I was a kid. It wasn't until grad school that a switch got flipped in my head and I thought "Hey, I can do this!" The thing...

What did I cook this weekend.....

I just had to take a pic of the saddest most monochrome plate I've ever put together. We took off on a vacation Tuesday and, Sunday the MIL gave us a couple kohlrabi from their garden (they're traveling with us so we had to eat up the four or five kohlrabi that were ready before we left.)...
