    Did I make beer?

Extract, hmm are you referring to the base ingredients from cans that I started the fermentation with? I used 3kg (two 1.5kg tins).

    Did I make beer?

In retrospect, this would have been a good idea :) Should I inject one or two of those 8g CO2 injection bulbs now?

    Did I make beer?

Yes, but as a noob I didn't take the initial one when putting it in the fermenter. Six days after starting to ferment, the gravity reading was 1.020. Four weeks after starting to ferment, the gravity reading was 1.010, which is when I barreled it. The recipe says 1009 is the optimal. BTW...

    Did I make beer?

Here's my Milestone IPA: It's not very bubbly (but you can see there is some). It was fermenting for four weeks, and in the barrel for three weeks. I added 80g of glucose when barreling the 20 litres. When pouring this glass, there was pressure. But by the time I had poured this small...

    What's this plasticy thing?

The bubbling made it just as far as the lid, but never pushed out through the open bunghole ( :) ) Thanks, next time I'll know what to do with that plasticy thing. I'll let you know how it goes.

    What's this plasticy thing?

Seems to have worked fine. I take it that the thing I showed is only to protect from dust or insects etc. No flies got in as far as I know :) I transferred to my barrel afterwards. That was a week ago. So in about three more weeks I'll be trying it out.

I take it this won't let me inject CO2?

Thanks MuchoGusto! That solves it. So the answer is: my barrel as it is now will not allow me to inject CO2. What strategy should I take for placing the valve cap on the barrel, since the beer will have already been sitting in the barrel for two weeks. I'm planning to start drinking it 4...

I take it this won't let me inject CO2?

Here's the requested full view of the barrel: Where does that leave me with respect to being able to top up with CO2?
  9. Howareya

I take it this won't let me inject CO2?

I want to inject CO2 since I heard that my beer will quickly go flat without doing so. This is my serving vessel. I already fermented it in another buck, and added some glucose when transferring to this barrel. So I take it CO2 injection is not liked around here? Not exactly sure how I...

I take it this won't let me inject CO2?

Hey, here's my barrel with my first brew in it already: I take it that this cap won't let me inject CO2? Howareya.

    What's this plasticy thing?

Hmm, it has been brewing a month now.
  12. Howareya

    What's this plasticy thing?

I guess there's no need for me to go near my bunghole, it's already fermented and ready for transfer. :)
  13. Howareya

    What's this plasticy thing?

Uh oh, that was meant to go into the top of my fermentation bucket, right? I just figured there was a little rubberized whole at the top of the fermenter to let the brewing beer "breath". Is this failure? The beer itself (haven't transfered it to the barrel yet) does look like stuff has...

    What's this plasticy thing?

I'm guessing it's to do with syphoning, but I already have the racking stick, and the length of tubing.

My first beer in progress - does it look as you might expect?

Alright, I can purchase beer in the meantime to keep me satisfied :) I'll just leave it in there for a month in total. Then, I'll take another couple of consecutive hydrometer readings just to be sure, and then siphon it off to the plastic barrel (with a little extra glucose), and leave there...

My first beer in progress - does it look as you might expect?

Thanks for all the advice. I take it the "primary" is the bucket I have it in right now in the photo*above (not the plastic barrel that it will be transferred to). It would do no harm to just leave the beer at 18C for a full month? I just leave it sit there without touching it for a month...

My first beer in progress - does it look as you might expect?

Interesting, I'll wait another week in that case (that will be two weeks after starting). Interesting, since the simple.instructions with the mash said 4-6 days.

My first beer in progress - does it look as you might expect?

Yes, first as in very first gravity reading. I was too much of a noob to realise I should have taken an original reading before adding the yeast. The tempeature-adjusted reading today was 1.019, so I'll wait a couple of more days to get stable readings closer to the suggested 1.009 for my...
