I love rye (bread and the booze) and wanted to try a rye beer. Want Im looking for is a rye beer that has some rye flavor to it with some hoppy aroma. Like a Rye IPA?? Does anyone know of a style or recipe that fits? Or if not point me in the right direction to come up with my own??

    First RO Water additions

Thanks samc! Great reference! I hate the idea of chalk and I might try it latter down the road but it sounds like something to be avoided....

    First RO Water additions

Looks close to what Quickie Water Chemistry Primer (below) says for a Burton Pale Ale except for my CI being higher. Calcium Magnesium Sodium Chloride Sulfate (Ca ppm) (Mg ppm) (Na ppm) (Cl ppm) (SO4 ppm) 105 18 57 157 236 You think these look OK?

    First RO Water additions

Im going to do a Boddingtons clone and want to add some things to my RO water to try to help things along. I found the EZ calculator excel spreadsheet and played around with some things. I was going to do for a 5 gal batch: 6 grams of Gypsum 3 grams of Calc Chloride 4 grams of Epsom Salt 3 gramd...

    uC Keezer Controller

Ah smoking meat. I just finished 40lbs of bacon! I bought a few FEZ pandas on sale ($20/ea). Way overkill but this is temp until my pid comes in.

    uC Keezer Controller

Thanks. Im going to cycle the power on and off so I would think the built in delay wouldnt work. Im going to use some type of dallas one-wire sensor. I have a few lying around.

    uC Keezer Controller

I'm going to put together a quick keezer controller for my new, well, keezer. What do I need to worry about? Turn on @ 39 and off @ 37. What about times in between cycling, min time to stay on??

    Problem calculating sparge wate amount

I do have a pick up tube and I can get almost every last drop out. Considering my FB is 2.5 gallons higher than the bottom I add an extra 2.5 gallons to the mash to make sure it's covered. Since Im doing that I would think I need to cut my sparge down by 2.5 gallons. So my question is, does the...

    Decoction or not

Awesome info. My beer turned out great. Im kegging tomorrow and so far it looks and tastes great. My eff, sg and color was spot on. I did an hour for head retention. I never did this before so I wouldnt know if it made a huge impact or not until I try another batch with a shorter time. Thanks...

    That will withstand the heat?

    Decoction or not

Im going to try a little experimenting and do a batch with the right way ( with boils ). So I can see if I can tell the difference. I got great efficiency from the above but want to capture as much of the flavor this could provide as well.

    Problem calculating sparge wate amount

I have wide 15 gallon pots. Every .9 inches is a gallon. I like them too much to replace them so I think I might have to just boil off 2 1/2 gallons per batch I want to use the full sparge amount. Im not sure if the longer boil would be bad. Like darkening the wort or changing the flavor. Maybe...

    Problem calculating sparge wate amount

I compensate for my false botton (2 1/2 gallons of water) in my mlT fill. I then calculate I need 5 gallons for spargung . Do I use this which will end up giving me an extra 2 1/2 gallons due to the mlt compensastion. Then just boil off the extra water,. I did try to comensate my spagre water to...

    Rust coming from heating element

If I leave RO water in my tanks the base of the heater element is leeching rust into the wate. Anyway to get rid of this?

How do I run lower volts and amps to my switches?

A SSR is not that expensive and I would always recommend two per 220 line.ur pot not be grounded but you might be. Not worth the risk.

    Questions for electric herms guys.....

I watch the mlt, wort returning in and hlt. I recirculate my hlt all the time. I spike my hlt to get a rapid rise in temp and then set it 1 degree above what I want in the mlt. I have nice heavy pots and a uContoller which monitors and does all the heat work for me. It's spot on. I never stir my...

    My Brew System

Second batch and it went great. My one march pump froze for some reason but came back tide after some live. I think then 4 hours if running, heat and super sticky wort got to it. The system itself has no other kinks and my controller is rocking
