Immersion Chiller or Mash Tun or Kegging Equip?

I am going through a bit up an update to my brew setup... One that I didn't expect when getting back into brewing. I am starting to head towards a bit more automated... Dont get me wrong, the 50 foot hunk of copper I got was well worth it for my IC it has never done me wrong.

    Thinking about trying all-grain brewing

For the most part it really is... It really does come down to it being what you want it to be. Go full on automated, get into every science aspect that you please, try and brew as cheap as you can, buy the highest dollar stuff you can find... Make beer and make of it as you please it...

Immersion Chiller or Mash Tun or Kegging Equip?

As kegging is convenient.. The hour + to chill in an ice bath was always rough for me. I give one vote to a chiller. I wish I would have gone straight for a plate or CFC at the start now after the fact. I still use my IC but wish I would have just made the big purchase of a plate chiller.

What do batch sparge with? cup/pot etc...

Just curious, when you guys split sparges, do you stir, vorlouf, drain, then do the same with the second amount of water? I have always just sparged with one addition, stir, vorlouf, drain... sorry for the hijack.

All grain with a 30 qt turkey fryer pot

my first all grain batches were in the same set up I am thinking.. I had a 30 qt aluminum pot and burner you get from the local box store for frying turkeys. I boiled off 1 gallon pretty much to the "T" in that set up. I shot for 6.5 gallons and when I hit it ended up with 5.5 post boil. FWIW

    Thinking about trying all-grain brewing

I am a HUGE nerd! I liked brewing beer back in the day with my father. We did tons of extract batches. I decided to get back into it and did about a dozen extract batches. I went all grain shortly after starting up again because I like all the "bits" you get to play with and all the more...

    Getting Through the Hot Break?

I would say you are not tending your heat.. once you see the boil starting to happen. You will notice a bit of foam on top of the wort. Cut the heat a touch.. After you start boiling it takes a considerably small amount heat to keep it going from there. Just how I go about it. I too have a...

    Brew stand build!

That is awesome! The only thing I would change is, you should have driven to San Antonio ahead of time and built it with your pops.. I bet he would have dug it and you would have lernt a thing or two from the ole man. Anyway.. that is a good looking setup. Simple and straight forward...

brewkart + ditches + countertop brutus = this

yah wondered that as well.. i would think just cleaning bits up? Just adds time and can't do any harm. Looks like a set up that works.

    Fresh Hops and water retention..

meh should have been a bit clearer... I boil off pretty much exactly one gallon during an hour boil.. so I shoot for 6.5 gallons in the boil kettle. I usually use pellet hops and have always been pretty much spot on to end up with about 5.5 gallons in the fermenter. With this batch, I was...

    Fresh Hops and water retention..

Quick question... I brewed an off the cuff batch with some friends this weekend. Hit all my temps and my pre boil volume. At the end of the boil we were way low. The only change was that we used fresh hops... I am guessing they soaked up a bunch of water. How do you guys go...

How do you buy grain in bulk?

I purchased 50lbs of 2 row and get specialty grains as I need them... I am lucky the homebrew store is 5 miles from me.
