    First Time Dry Hopping Questions

Oh ..OK Thanks for the heads up...Makes sence guess...Secondary Hopping it is then....

    Bumping up %ABV value

If bumping up the Alcohol level is all you are after then spend the $2 on a bag of Dextrose and be done with it. That will give you an extra 2.5% and taste a heap better than dumping a truck load of corn syrup in it but if you don't care about the taste use a 2 lb bag of brown sugar. It'll get...

New brewers - stop worrying about gravity readings

If you are still using a hydro for "testing", then presumably you are still at primary or early secondary stage which beggs the question.... Why would you want to be drinking/sampling "green" beer anyway ... Sick puppy....;)

    Cost of a brew.

Mine run at about $25 at the moment as I'm constantly buying different hops and yeast as im trying to copy styles but normally a bit cheaper say 20 bucks.

    Calculating OG?

I used my brew calculator and figure your OG should be 1.058

How much more might SG go down?

I found an excellent brew calculator on www.brewcraft.com.au that may help you out. It takes into account all of your ingredients and gives you an OG, FG and Alcohol %. Other than that I agree with Shambolic you have lots of non-fermentables and that may be the reason your reading is so...

    First Time Dry Hopping Questions

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I think I must be missing something! Are you saying you hop your secondary and then rack to a carboy or someting and then bottle or do you just mean you hop your secondary and use a racking cane to bottle with? It just seems like Shambolics way...

How much more might SG go down?

Is there any danger in repitching yeast? I assume if you do this racking is a must due to a double thickness yeast cake. In addition to this if you can repitch the yeast is it also reasonable to expect a dryer finished beer due to the extra yeast eating up every last bit of fermentable sugar?

    uneven flavors

Well there is a good chance the difference has more to do with the bottles themselves than your brew, concidering all your usual variables are consistant. Are your Bottles the same make , colour and thickness ? This may be affecting the amount of light getting in and thus potentualy changing the...

Starting point for first AG Brew

Wow..... What that site don't got , you don't need!!! I spent the past day going cross-eyed on water table results and biocarbonate readings from every beer making city in the world. Combine that with he multiple rest points and hardcore equiptment suggested and it kinda makes brewing beer look...

    how long in secondary

I have never used a carboy and manage to get quite good clarity. My ever increasing urge for the perfect beer is leading me to suspect that that might be a urgent purchase early in the new year. I was wondering though, how long should I leave it racked in the carboy for? Is there ever a point...

    Double the Yeast Fuel??

Not sure what recipe you were using that called for two lots of yeast but I was thinking of trying that on my next Lager in an attempt to speed up fermentation at the lower lager temperature!!!.... Hopefuly with better results than Tim. Any thoughts ?????

What do you use to stain your wort?

You really cant go too far wrong with the good old cheese cloth. Cheep and Reliable. Sure there is premium quality, job specific equipment you can shell out for but you will pay premium price for it too.

Starting point for first AG Brew

Thanks Mate. Much appreciated. I actually found a link to that site the other day but I couldn't remember the name and couldn't find the link again. This site seems to be the brewers Bible of sorts Huh?

Starting point for first AG Brew

This is probley the most fundimental question you will read today but as a relitive newby to brewing and a complete Newby to AG brewing I have to ask. What is a good starting point for an AG brew? I mean I think I understand the process but I cant seem to find quantities? How much grain should...

    how long in secondary

I did the same thing once and noticed something strange. The extra time in the primary fermenter seemed to bring more clarity to my beer than anything I've done during secondary. Probley due to the sediment having a chance to settle and stay in the primary rather than being transfered into the...

    Adding Grain for flavor

I have made a few brews so far but am a relitive newby at home brewing and would like some advice. I have been toying with the idea of adding some grain to my next brew just for a change but am unsure of the method! Should I be substituting Dextrose with the Grain or should I simply be adding...
