Why does my transported kegs end up with watered down beer?

Hello, So, this has now happened twice so I want to figure out how to avoid it. I have a theory but figured I throw it out to the masses for opinion. Here goes: I have a three keg kegerator in my house. One issue is that over time the back wall of the fridge freezes. Since it's a...

    Quickie Butt Crack Ale

So a little poker weekend got in the way but I kegged this fella tonight. Pretty uneventful. It finished at 1.018 which is high for this usually but of course the high mash temp (158) probably accounted for most of this. Bad side of this is that it amounts to about 3.5% alcohol. Normally...

Am I about to ruin my kettle? Weldless Ball Valve Kit

I have the 10 gallon version of the pot and installed similar weldless ball valve with no problem and no leaks for a couple years. 1 inch from bottom is about what I did then I added an elbow as a dip tube to go a little lower when draining the pot. Just be sure to use the step bit and go slow.

    Quickie Butt Crack Ale

I should be pitching the yeast in about an hour. My guess is I can have this on tap for next Sunday. Still curious on the result of the high/short mash. I'll update in an week. And below is what a FULL mash tun looks like.

    Quickie Butt Crack Ale

An experiment in shortening the brew cycle. This was more of one of those "can i do this" rather than something I'll repeat. Quickie Butt Crack Ale (my take on the Cream of Three Crops, name is my brother's nickname and he prefers the nice light beers, i never make it the same way twice)...

    Scrub Master 3000 Version 2.0

I built this last weekend. If you go into the sprinkler section of home depot you'll find the hose (female) to pipe swivel that you can use to connect the pump to the pvc. I do think the inch pvc is overkill but it makes it look impressive. Doing the build with 3/4 is probably just as good...

too lazy to read thru it all..... And not true to the OP subject (since I've had it), Ox Penis Soup. Yeah, tastes like chicken. But the Pigs blood that goes with it, ouch.

First mass public serving with my mostly portable taps...

Couple weeks ago for the celebration of Walpurgisnacht I was asked to provide the libations for the celebration. About 50 people. Brewed up a batch of ButtCrack (creame ale) and Pauite Pale Ale (APA). Also had half a keg of Not So Imperial Stout and Barely Naked Barleywine. Build myself a...

    fermentation chamber/workspace pics

Mine is similar. Out of probably laziness I never hinged the door. I just made it a tight fit using the foam insulation. Put two handles on it and pull it off and push it back on. The upper lip overhangs to keep it in place. After a little practice I can open and close with no problem...

My idea for serving my beer at upcoming party and a wedding

My daughter did request it. Also, a two different people from work have asked about serving at parties that they have. So I figure that there is enough interest to do something a little nice. As far as the beer I've got the queue full. 5 kegs in various levels of full and after this...

My idea for serving my beer at upcoming party and a wedding

I've got enough requests for serving my beer at parties (and at some point this year my daughter's wedding). So I've been pondering the best setup for this. First idea: Jockey box. But it looks a little too jockey box to me and it's not the cheapest endeavor either. Second idea: One of...

Hydrometer reading before or after settling of wort

Hi, So my boil is done. I stir up the wort to make such it's relatively distributed. Pull a sample. My samples these days have lots of particles and such (either hop stuff or just break material). Drop in the hydrometer and take a reading. Is the more correct reading the one...

    Pliny The Frozen

Well turned down the fridge last week to crash a yeast starter. Forgot to reset it to "medium". I guess the bottom of a side by side fridge can get pretty cold. At least it popped the top. Also, a 3L Arrogant bastard bottle did not pop.... Oh yeah, this is a pliny the elder clone that was...

    Your fave little hint/process/equipment/trick....

Maybe a thread on little things you've come up with to make your brew process work. Something that maybe you do that after 5 or 7 or 15 times you said "hey here is some little nugget of wisdom". I'll start with this. I like to take gravity readings throughout the brewing process (first...

Moving to All Grain - Equipment List

For me the biggest drop in cost on your equipment list, without sacrificing quality, is to go with an aluminum brew pot. 10 gal heavy gauge for 40 bucks. Add weldless fitting for another 25 or so. This will cover you for 5 gallon batches. At least that was one way for me to get into all...

    The LegoKegorator

Thanks for the comments. We have about 30 years worth of legos. Hard part on this build was finding enough old school 2x4 bricks. We just added a few mini figs with heads decapitated. My other motivation here, by the way, is that since getting back into brewing after 20 years I bought a...
