  2. Pirate Ale

    Pacman Yeast?

First, is it as good as they say it is? Second, what type of beers is it suitable to substitute it into? Any ale? or just American ale, etc? Thanks for the input.:D

    What type of beer?

I did this one as well for my first brew. It turned out kinda like a weak Sam Adams. I thought it had stuck, but turns out it just fermented really quick. It gets better after 3-4 weeks in bottle, but it is not ever going to be really great. I just racked my second batch, a new castle clone...

    OG question

I agree. how do you get a higher OG in an extract? Without altering the flavor too much. I love my New Castle clone, but it is weak in ABV. how can I kick it up?:drunk:

    Beer Brite

Ok, so Skipping B-brite, since some say it sanitizes and others say it doesn't.... And I know this is a can of worms....What is the best sanitizer? Star San, One Step, Idophor, PBW? All input welcome.

    Beer Brite

Can you make a gallon of BB to keep around the house for quick sanitation of brew stuff? Or does it lose its effectiveness?

Ok buddies, 5 gal. blowoff or 6.5 for primary?

    Define "BOIL"

So all that really doens't answer the question. Is a slow boil on an electric range going to give the hot break needed, as compared to a high rolling boil?:(

    Some Kegging Questions

Can you guys go into more details on Forced carbonation vs. natural carbonation for corny kegs? I want to do a few kegs in the very near future, but still don't quite get the benefits of forced over primed, or vice versa. If you condition in a corny for 2-3 weeks, and then force carb, is that...

    Define "BOIL"

Ok, walk me through this. Extract partial boil. Used 2 gal. water and 6.6 lbs LME, .6 lbs DME Boiled 1 hour, added to primary with 3.25 gal. cold water, to = 5 gal. What would the calcualtion be, as far as including the volume of the malt extract? Without adding the volume...

    Define "BOIL"

So the answer is?... I would like to know how to calculate boil off rate. I think the problem with my slightly sweet first brew may have been that an electric stove will not get my kettle to a full rolling boil. It just getts to a mild churn. >>Goes to look for jet engine to properly...

    Sweet Brew?

1.012 at 75 deg. F was final gravity. I used Mutons extract, and put hops in for 60 mins. Plus 2 packs of mutons dry yeast that i did a starter for. It bubbled like mad for 2 days, then slowed to nothing by day 4.

    Sweet Brew?

My first brew attempt was a basic beer recipe kit provided by the LHBS. It was: 1/2 lbs Crystal Malt 6.6 lbs Light LME 3 oz. hop pellets (can't remember name while at work) Water Salts Dry yeast Partial boil on my electric stove(boy that took forever). I followed the instructions...

OG question on Norther Brew Kit.

I brewed teh NB nukey kit this weekend, using a partial boil and distilled water. The OG was supposed to be 1.052, but when I checked it, it was only 1.045 @ 78 deg. F. Corrected that would be 1.047-48 right? So why the difference?

    What's Brewing this Weekend?

I will be attempting my second brew. I am staring at the ingredients for a New Castle Clone, as I type, and my mouth is watering... Off to work so the weekend gets here faster.:mug:
