    Dry hopping in primary?

I dry hop in the keg often. I've gon as long as 8 weeks with the hops in the keg. I've never has a real grassy taste in any of my dry hopped beers. I am going to DH 5 Gal of an Imp IPA and plan to leave the hops in the keg for 3 months. Then transfer to a fresh keg. I'm leaning to it...

    sanitizing question?

The OxyClean is used to clean the equipment... it helps eat / dislodge / loosen and remove the organic materials... It is NOT a sanitizer! Bleach will work for sanitizer but needs to be rinsed well after use. Either avoid bleach and your stainless steel or you need to rinse well and rinse...

    Spigot in primary?

I've been using buckets for primary going on 3.5 yrs now... I have spigots installed in most of them. (I keep forgetting to buy additional spigots for the rest). Since I keg, I attach Js Kegging Apparatus to the spigot, pull airlock and open valve. Beer flows into the keg and no siphon...

    Beer Bucket lifespan

I'm at 3.5 yrs and going strong. Like mentioned above... cleaning is key by not scratching them... My carboys are not limited to sitting on a shelf or holding wine/mead in them for longer periods of time...

Is one fermenting vessel better than the other?

For me it was ease of clean up. Next it was cost. My LHBS originally had them $15 more than a carboy and they talked you into glass. Today they have BBs for the cost of glass. One reason I avoid the glass carboys is due to glass breakage and safety. They got slick when I use Star San...

Is one fermenting vessel better than the other?

My preferance is a bucket with bottling spigot installed. I have caboys but rarely use them.... I'd take a better bottle over a carboy if the choice is the 2 only...

What is that rough stuff in my plastic fermenters?

Are you referring to the tan rough stuff that builds up over time at the krausen area? I really don't use anything other than Oxyclean, warm water, fingers and occasionally a blue scruby on the back side of the sponge.... I have used my buckets for 2 years with no issue and I have no worries...

Adding a thief port to a fermentation bucket?

I recently drilled approx 1.5 inch hole and plug it with a non-drilled #15 stopper. I used the hole to drop my air stone in, fill from the boil keggle, etc.... Seems to be working fine, I might cut the next lid soon too.

Siphoning into a corny - The Reverse BMBF

I've been doing this for a while now. But since you have the siphon already in place... why use the auto siphon? Js Keg Fill Apparatus The bottling spigot is installed in the fermenter. Then using: * 3/8" ID vinyl tubing * 1/4 MFL x 3/8" Barb * MFL Pin/Ball...

faucet locks for Ventmatic or Perlick style faucets

Glass stop hehe that's a clink in the glass I'd hate to hear.... I've been looking around at this myself... I have a teenager and a few more over the back wall and I have suspicions. Anyhow... I'm experimenting with adjustable locks whereas the shank is removable. The cheapy from...

    Tower shanks

Where is the best price on tower shanks? I'm either doing a DIY tower or I'll buy from ACU Metal Fab. (most likely) so I'll need to supply the shanks. I see most online HB retailers don't carry them. MicroMatic and a couple others have them... So I'm looking for the not so common...

    just racked my first cider

If you don't have the auto siphon you can skip the filling with water and use an air lock.... YOU REMOVE THE AIR LOCK before letting the flow go... So your not mouthing the tubing.... Nothing unsanitary about it.... Also plugging the tubing with your finger is a contamination point...

    just racked my first cider

When I need to do a siphon I sanitize an air lock and put that on the end of the hose.... lips only touch the air lock and not the hose. And make sure the hose is long enough to help hold the seal. I normally have a bottling spigot installed in my buckets.... I connect direct to the...
