    Conditioning question

Hi all, hope your christmas brew was amazing - mine was, chocolate English stout with a hint of vanilla and coffee. I'm looking at a couple batches of Russian imperial stout, and it looks like they all need some conditioning, 3-6 months. Oddly enough, I am limited in fermenters, but have an...

    Mash question

This is my second all grain batch, robobrew - have done 8 extract brews, one partial mash that didn’t go quite so well, and one all grain (brown ale, best yet). Us robobrew (120v, 1500a heating) with 3 layers of foil lined bubble insulation. Tried the traditional cooler method, failed...

Adding macadamia (or any I guess) extracts

Hi - had a delicious nut brown the other day that I want to try and make - but it had a distinct macadamia taste to it. Read up a lot on getting that flavor, looks like extracts are the simplest way to go (i.e. I have the patience of a gnat and don’t want to roast them to get the oil out)...

    Grainfather or Robobrew owners...

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I’m now confused. New to all grain, one batch under my belt, but I was under the impression that when mashing temp must be below 170f. How is it that when sparging, temps can go up to 200?

Grainfather / Robobrew question (not asking which is better)

I’m looking into both, just started all grain and found out that I am bad at controlling temperature. Like really bad. I know the more I do it the better I’ll get... Anyhow - both seems pretty comparable in features and quality, as well as process. Questions; and I’m just trying to wrap my...

How many gallons brewed in 2019!

5 gal centennial blonde ale 818.5+5=823.5

Taking the next step (or the plunge, depending on how it goes)

Holy crap my temps were all over the place. Need to rethink my setup. 25f outside temp not helping. Might be a little lighter beer than anticipated...

    Cooler mod question

Hi thanks, saw one of those at beer store, will pick one up next time I’m there. In the meantime I’m going to stick one of the pieces of tubing on the inside of the cooler to help alleviate that, thanks for the tip.

    Cooler mod question

Yeah, I’m thinking the manifold was a fun experiment and looks cool, but I think I’m going to pull the manifold and use a paint bag as a strainer. Think I have a discharge filter I can use as well if the mesh is top big.

Taking the next step (or the plunge, depending on how it goes)

Awesome, thanks. One last question - the grain I have has ‘dust’ - should this be shaken out before I immerse, or will it filter out?

    Cooler mod question

just finished cutting and installing sparge manifold in a rectangle cooler. As it is now, the hole is about 1” above the bottom. Is this just lost volume that I should be unconcerned with, or do I need to find a spacer?

Taking the next step (or the plunge, depending on how it goes)

So I have 8 brews under my belt (yes, a legend in my mind), 3 from extract kits, 4 from extract recipes, and one was a mini mash because I couldnt’ find the right extracts, prodded and guided by Islandlizard (many thanks, membership incoming, can’t justify not donating after all the help I get...

    Transferring into kegs

Really? Buckets... my thoughts were to have a way to remove the trub and get clear beer easier. I just recently got a couple glass carboys (great deal on them)...and as I read here but didn’t heed, cool to watch, pain to use. My bucket is now a grain dump. Makes sense though, and definitely...

    Transferring into kegs

Ok thanks. Don’t drink the brown beer...got it. No more bottling for me - that was just too easy. Now I’m looking into a conical fermenter...or 3. Seems they all have a method to save yeast, and some have an alternate port for transferring. So many things...so little time to research...

    Pellet hops question

    Thanks

    Transferring into kegs

just kegged my first time yesterday, some spillage, but overall a boatload easier and faster than bottling. One dilemma (possibly only in my mind). When I stick the siphon thing in, it sucks up some of the goo (trub?) at the bottom of the fermenter. Not a real issue to me when going to the...

    Pellet hops question

i have several partially used packets of hops resealed (with tape) and in the freezer. Is this an adequate way to store or am I just wasting my freezer space?

    Purging a corny keg

Thank you. I noticed after I kegged that I have a couple lids with the relief - how do I open the relief, just stick something in one of the holes? Of course, I didn’t use that one so I went with the manual method at 30psi...

    Purging a corny keg

Doing my first kegging expedition today - air and new taps all set up, ready to go. After I fill the keg, I know I will need to purge the air, how is this done? The CO2 goes into the short tube side, definitely don’t want to purge from the other side, so do I connect the CO2, disconnect and...
