planing on doing a few upgrades to my equipment before i do my second batch

I would suggest ordering a kit from Northern Brewer, Midwest Supply or Austin. The key to making better beer is A. The process. And 1A the ingredients. I think they have a high quality standard.

Should I remove ring of trub?

Leave it. You never want to try and "clean" your fermentation vessel while you have beer in there. It is nothing that will cause off flavors. Forget it and clean after you remove the beer for bottling/kegging

    Bulk Shipping Home Brew

It is against the law to ship beer through USPS it is a govt. agency and you could get in trouble. You can ship through FedEx or UPS but you need to declare what you are shipping and the person getting it needs to be 21. You can try and do it without them knowing (I have done this quite a few...

    Burner Temp Control Like ToP

Hi all I hope this is the right place to post this. I am getting a new three burner direct fire system. It is a top tier and I am very excited. I have been toying with also buying one of the main Tower of Power units. Not the pump just the main unit. $575.00 is steep and I am into this new...

    blichmann engineering

I do not disagree with anything above. Here is my only other thought process. Homebrewing has a sub culture the DYI is king. People will always say I can build it for X and Blichmann is over piced. I am not a DYI person for many reasons I don't enjoy it, I am not good at it and I would rather...

    Hop Rocket/Randalizer tips

I have one as well and I have only used it once. I put a dry stout through three oz. of Columbus hops and it was great. A little foamy at first but once it sat in the keggarator awhile it worked well. As far as why the flow goes up if you notice how the screen is set up on the bottom there is a...

    blichmann engineering

I have not used those but I firmly believe you get what you pay for. I own some Blichmann products (Beergun, Hoprocket) and just ordered and waiting for it to arrive the top tier system with two kettles, the hopblocker, sparge arm, false bottom, plate chiller, thrumoter I did a tone of...

    Finding the Elder (marylamd)

Pliny does not get distributed east of CO in bottles. Some kegs get out to Philly. The only RR beers on the east coast is the sours and belguims and only in Philly.

I purchased this kit today and am really looking forward to brewing it. This has been one of the most helpful threads I have come across.

    Adding orange?

Normally you would have added bitter orange peel or sweet orange peel during the boil with a Hefe. Some of the flavors you are looking for will come with the yeast. I have never used orange extract. I would imagine a little will go a long way. I would wait until primary fermentation is done...

    My brew day is complete

Wow an eight hour brew day is epic. I got my AG process down to 4.5 hours. The more you do AG the better you get at nailing down your process. Congrads on the day! Be patient and enjoy the fruits of your labor in a month or so. Cheers

If only we could get rid of the big 3

The issue I have has nothing to do with the beer itself. While I don't like light american lagers if someone else does then so be it. My problem is their business practices. They currently have lawsuits pending on the bigger craft breweries DFH, Sierra just to tie their money up in litigation...
