    BIAB & Boil Pot size

I do 5-5.5 gallon batches all grain biab in a 5 gallon pot. My efficiency ends up sucking (55-60%) but it still makes great beer. I make sure I calculate the maximum volume of strike water I can use to fit that and my grain bill in the pot to get the highest mash water / grain ratio I can...

    cold crashing visible layers

Hi everyone, I just kegged a low ABV (3.5%) version of Schlenkerla's Quaffable Irish Red (All Grain). This was a bit of an experiment in that I wanted to go from grain to glass pretty quickly due to a bit of a homebrew shortage. I brewed it last Sunday Jan 22, it only took a few days to...

    pvtschultz's eBIAB Build, Finally!

May something be expanding due to the heat and then shorting out on something?

    pvtschultz's eBIAB Build, Finally!

Great job! My keggle is the same way, inverted using a 2" triclover on the sankey port. Why do you bother having a ball valve on the side when you could use the one on the bottom. So you can whirlpool and avoid the trub in the middle?

hop tea with beer instead of water to dry hop in keg

I am after flavor and aroma. I think you'd need to boil to extract much bitterness. Anyhow, I made a hop tea with water in a french press and dumped it all into the primary. On another batch I did the same with leaf hops in a nylon bag and dumped into a keg. I did one on Saturday, other on...

hop tea with beer instead of water to dry hop in keg

My only concern was diluting my beer. I was also wondering if heating / cooking the beer would change it in any way. It my loose some alcohol if boiled. I was thinking since the wort has already been cooked it might not change much; then again there's yeast in it now.

hop tea with beer instead of water to dry hop in keg

Hey all, I have a keg of ESB that could use some dry hopping. I've read about making a hop tea with boiling water in a french press. Doing it this way I'd add almost a litre of water, diluting my beer. I was thinking of dispensing the same amount of beer from the keg, and heating it up on the...

brew in a bag, small batches

It is still posible for you to make a 5 gallon all grain biab with your 5 gallon pot. You will need to do a high gravity partial boil and top off the water in the fermentor (or BK after the boil). This method is referred to as maxi biab if you want to do some searching. I did this last week...

Partial Boil All Grain Apartment Brewing

Hey man, any luck with this? I am thinking about doing the same thing via high gravity BIAB partial boil.

Cake pan + skateboard wheel + bike brakes = homemade peristaltic pump??

Have you thought about using some concave wheels? That's if they even exist. They may form to the tubing better and also keep it aligned.

Festa Brew - Cream Ale - Expired ???

It may be fine but you might want to grab a new packet of yeast.

    Urgent question!

Well at least now you have a cool name for this brew... Barfing Baby Pale Ale (or whatever)!

How much sugar for kegging soda

Also, I'd like to mention that the commercial soda makers use a high level of carbonation which masks the sweetness from the insane amount of sugar they add. Taste flat pop, much sweeter.

5 gal lemon lime soda recipe

I used 5 cups of sugar, 500ml ReaLemon lemon juice, 500ml of ReaLime juice, in 5 gallons of water last time. I think it should be named "5 Up", or "5 Down" now. ":)

How much sugar for kegging soda

I have a lemon lime soda that I keg with a 5 gal corny, force carb. I use 5 cups of sugar for 5 gallons and it's just sweet enough (could be a bit sweeter) but it depends on what you like and the nature of the soda.

    Keezer Electricity Usage

Not surprising. Chest freezers make great fridges. There's lots of articles by tree huggers on how to convert your freezer into a fridge. The cold air doesn't spill out when you open it and it's more efficient. :)

    How-To: Pt100/RTD 1/2" NPT Thermowell

Thanks. I just ordered a 6" thermowell from brewershardware.com that doesn't have threads on the inside. I figure I'll secure it with epoxy or some other adhesive.

    How-To: Pt100/RTD 1/2" NPT Thermowell

Paul, does the XLR connector actually thread into the thermowell body? I'm looking at a thermowell body with no threads on the inside and wondering if your XLR connector is indeed threaded. Thanks, -Rob
