I actually came across this program last night and immediately installed it. Very nice!

    Qbrew

I am new to brewing and am really liking qbrew. Would any of you with data additions like to share? When you add data it gets put into a .qbrewdata file in your home directory. If you could post it or email it to me that would be great (will PM address). I could make a patch and send it to...

I just ran the numbers through qbrew and the numbers came out the same. :)

Irish Red Ale Quaffable Irish Red (Extract)

If I want to do a 3 gallon batch of this do I just multiply all of the ingredients by 3/5ths? Also, I'd be doing a full boil. I understand that will make my hops usage more effective so would 3/5 the hops still be ok? I don't mind it being slightly hoppier. Thanks, -Rob

Wow, thanks! Good thing I have a beer in my hand right now or else I'd have some issues. :)

Thanks for the recipe and all the comments, I think this will be my first beer. However, this thread really needs some pics! Anyone? :)

20 qt pot large enough for...

Hi, is a 20 qt stock pot large enough to do a full boil for a 3 gallon batch (extract) without too much potential for boil over? I know I need to watch it closely anyways. I guess I may need to calculate my boil off rate to figure out how much liquid to start with. Also I know I can top off...

    Drinking my first cider. Success!

Yeah it was pretty simple that's for sure. I have another one on the go but now I'm daydreaming about brewing my first beer.

    Drinking my first cider. Success!

I did up a 1 gallon batch to give cider a try. It consists of about a gallon of cider from the grocery store, 1/2 lb of brown sugar, and EC-1118 yeast. It went 2 weeks in primary then another 2 (minus a day) in secondary. I just bottled it in some flip top bottles. I'm enjoying a glass and...

    Real Caramel

I have to wait another week and a bit to free up a carboy and I'll give it a shot too. Thanks for all the replies guys.

    just racked my first cider

I used PC brand cider from the Superstore, 1.9 L or so containers I think. It's cloudy stuff with sediment, juice and no preservatives. Actually I didn't find much that had preservatives. They were $3.99 each. My next batch is using cans frozen from concentrate, at just over a buck each (x4).

    just racked my first cider

Thanks man, I'm going to try to get to Water 'n' Wine tomorrow. I've been there before I was really interested in home brewing and noticed they had a lot of stuff. I work in Bedford so it's close. About the ESB, I got onto that stuff over the summer when I discovered buying beer in growlers...

    Real Caramel

Wikipedia's telling me that brown sugar is sugar plus molasses, not caramel, and molasses is a byproduct of processing sugar cane into sugar.

    Real Caramel

Hi everyone, I have searched the forums for people using caramel in their ciders for flavour and / or sugar for fermentation. I've only found people using grain malts for caramel flavour. Has anyone tried using real caramel from cooking sugar on the stove? As I'm thinking of trying this some...

    just racked my first cider

Awesome. What area are you in? Dartmouth here. What are the best places to get supplies? I was thinking of getting a bucket with a spigot. I'll do that when I move onto larger batches. BTW I see you have an English bitter on the go. Have you tried Propeller's ESB? I like that one...

    just racked my first cider

Thanks guys for the input. I'll keep my eye's open for an auto siphon. Great tip, thanks. Yes, this raised some warnings in my head. I am concerned about contaminating my brew.

    just racked my first cider

I just racked my first cider ever from primary to secondary carboy. I'm only making 1 gal for fun and want to keep the batches small while I'm experimenting. This one consists of two 1/2 gal jugs of store bought cider with no preservatives, 1/2 lb of brown sugar, and a packet of EC-1118...

    Official Hot Sauce Making Thread

I had thought of some other uses for the powder - popcorn seasoning, jalapeno butter. I wanted to experiment with it also and thought I read before of a hot sauce recipe with it, only now I can't find any such thing. I would use vinegar, water, and something like xanthan gum to keep the...

    Official Hot Sauce Making Thread

Hi all, thanks for the awesome thread. I found it while googling for hot sauce recipes and it prompted me to join the forum. I have recently dried some green jalapenos in a dehydrator and tonight I will be grinding them into a powder. Does anyone have a recipe for using powdered peppers for a...
