    Best way to start brewing

When I started I think it’s easiest to start extract 5 gallon batches.the easiest way is to just get a starter kit with at least a 4 gallon kettle, your fermenting bucket and all the little stuff you need and most come with an extract kit. At least til you get a few batches under your belt and...

The music that shaped my life.

Oh man what a great thread. Music has been a huge part of my life. I constantly have music playing no matter what I’m doing. I’m the same as OP. As much as I wish I could I was never able to play an instrument. Growing up I always tried imitating my older brother, listening to what he did...

    Biggest lie on homebrew talk

I’ve looked all over and used the search but how do I.......(usually something simple or part of the brewing process) but they’re second guessing themselves and need an answer NOW! And it’s easier to start a thread than search or read through however many pages

    Biggest lie on homebrew talk

I notice that on dead threads... I’ll read through 30 pages of something I’m interested in finding out about that they’re going to come back and report on........ And still waiting....... Or the totally new brewer that posts I brewed XY&Z in a mop bucket with whatever for a false bottom, pretty...

    What are you drinking now?

Working on the bike and my keg didn’t carb up yet so I’m stuck with my go to...the bad thing about living in the middle of nowhere is I’m lucky to even get this.

Bumping up to 5.5 or 6 gal to achieve 5 gal batch

I always bump up to almost 6 gallons without adding anything but extra water. Your OG and FG may be a few numbers off but you more than likely won’t notice a difference. I bump up to 6 so by the time every thing is done and kegged I have a little over 5 gallons

show your age with a picture of a toy from your childhood

Not my pic but I had the same bike. 1989 I worked all year long to save and by 1989 GT performer. I had it about 2 weeks and pulled in to my buddies house to go ride the ramp we made when his dad came home drunk, missed the driveway by a foot or so and ran it over:oops:.... it was an awesome...

It's (not) the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!

I keep playing with pumpkin ales just to try and get a really good one. Not my favorite beer but it’s something I brewed and it’s always drinkable. So I keep trying. Most of the time this time of year I start messing with stouts and Octoberfest beers. I know I’m late for Octoberfest beers but...

    Let beer cool overnight?

Yes you can. It’s referred to as the no chill method. Just make sure everything is sanitized good and you’ll be ok. If you don’t want to wait I used to top off with super cold water and then fill my sink with ice and put my kettle in the sink. It would get me to pitching temps in under an hour.

Foam in airlock on top of carboy (plastic)

Yea all the foam at the top of your fermenter is totally fine and normal. It’s the krausen. If brewing in a bucket it would just be a ring around the bucket, but since you don’t have much headspace it’s making it’s way to your airlock
