    cooling without a chiller

Totally agree with all of those. I do brew indoors, and if I ever get an immersion chiller, I will keep those in mine for sure.

    cooling without a chiller

I just did my first full boil 5 gallon batch last weekend and used bags of ice in the bath tub. Worked great! It actually worked so well that it has decreased my desire to get an immersion chiller. I agree that I will eventually spend the money it would take to buy one, but there is also some...

Oregon Amazing Deal on Mash Tun

I'm glad someone's jumping on it! I mean, that thing is probably over $60 in parts alone.

    Best SMaSH recipe you've made???

Why would you even come into this thread to write that? Based on a couple recommendations in this thread as well as others, I am currently brewing a Maris Otter/Citra SMaSH, and it's my first brew! Never had a SMaSH before, but I can't wait to try it!

Oregon Amazing Deal on Mash Tun

First off, I am not selling this. I just saw it on craigslist and had to pass it on because it's such a good deal. I just built my mash tun, and I'm still thinking about buying it haha. http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/for/3684910785.html

    How many 2nd year bines?

Tried doing some searching but couldn't find great answers. My 2nd year hops are starting to sprout up out of my container on my 2nd floor apartment deck, and I just counted thirteen bines  That seems like a lot, and it's way more than I want to take care of, but I am wondering what a...

    Hello from Portland, OR

If you're traveling over to Mainbrew, do yourself a favor and go another mile and visit BrewBrothers. Their difference in prices from Mainbrew will be worth it. And they are now open seven days a week with most nights being til seven o' clock I believe. Btw, I also go to school over in...

    Mash Tun Size

http://www.rackers.org/calcs.shtml I found this site from people on here so trying to pass it on. If you know how many pounds of grain you usually like to do, just throw it in the "Can I Mash it?" and see how many gallons of space you would need. Quick and simple.

    Hello from Portland, OR

I have definitely seen their name pop up a couple times on here. I'll have to check them out. Well, you probably did a lot of traveling right through my hometown then... I'm from Newton!

    Hello from Portland, OR

Where from in Iowa?? Haven't made it over to Mainbrew yet, but I may have to check it out. That package deal does sound like a great price. I don't quite have the storage to buy in bulk, but that's why Brew Brother's "virtual bag" is such a great idea. I will probably be moving back to...

    Hello from Portland, OR

Traffic does get pretty bad at times. Portland metro was not built for the population that it has reached. That's why I take the public transportation all the time :D Brew Brothers rocks!! They are the place I first went when I got interested in brewing and haven't been anywhere since. They...

    Hop bines starting already PNW?

Just west of Portland and my second years are popping up as well. I am going to cut them back until April like mentioned above. I didn't even plant mine until May last year and still had a pretty good harvest for first year plants.

    Homebrew Competition Protocol

I always wondered what my first post would be, and it's finally here. Let me just give a quick thanks to everyone who contributes to this forum for the vast amount of knowledge that is available here. So... I did some searching but couldn't find the exact answer I was looking for, nor do I...
