The AA% are: Galena 13% Centennial 10% Cascade 5.5% I'm definitely going to dry hop this one. I thinking about going with one oz of cascade.

    Recipe Critique

I'll look into spreading out the hops. What do you guys think of the ibu level vs the amount of extract? My last batch turned out with a bit of a malty sweetness to it.

    Recipe Critique

I'm working on an extract IPA recipe and I'm looking for a little critique. Here's the recipe that I'm pretty happy with at the moment. Extract: 7.25 # Extra Light DME Yeast: Wyeast 1272 Specialty Grains: .5 # Crystal Malt 10L .05 # Roasted Barley (color) Hops: 1 oz Galena...

    Custom recipe tastes too sweet

Well this wasn't carbonated yet, although it looks like I should have added more bittering hops. It looks like I'm going to have to go back and check my calculations. I did everything by hand and calculated a 1.064 OG and about 64 IBU.

    Custom recipe tastes too sweet

So I'm still kind of new to the whole recipe design process. After a few pretty good attempts I decided to experiment with late hopping and increasing the ABV by increasing the amount of extract I used. However after over a month in secondary the FG has settled but the beer still tastes like...

Strangest thing that fell in your wort

This wasn't necessarily into the wort but they were in my airlock. I was fermenting an IPA in my mini-fridge, then on bottling day I found a half dozen or so fruit flys (I think that's what the little bastards are called) in the airlock. The beer tasted fine so I guess the airlock succeeded in...

    Taking Hydrometer sample during primary

Is pulling the lid off the bucket the best way to take a sample for hydrometer readings? Would it work to just take a sample in the beginning and leave it outside the bucket, separate from the rest of the batch, in the same conditions of course. Maybe just uncovered tough. That way you wouldn't...

air conditioner/cooling system for small cabinet

First pull the cover off the thermostat. You can then find the set screw that will let you change the temperature range that the fridge operates at. Turn it until the compressor kicks in, if it doesn't turn it the other way. It is then just a case of trial and error to get it where you want it...

air conditioner/cooling system for small cabinet

I am planning on using a modified mini-fridge to act as a cooler for fermenting. It's pretty simple to take the thermostat apart and adjust it to any temperature you want, really just a few screws. With the fan just make sure it pulls air from a colder environment otherwise it wont help. Just...

    Beer in Airlock

I've had a similar thing happen. I was brewing a wheat ale and the yeast foamed up into the airlock during fermentation and clogged it. This then blew the lid off of my fermentation bucket. I just sanitized everything again and put it back together it continued to foam up into the airlock till...
