New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Definitely, people who rated the beers weren't all NEIPA fans, so their scores really varied. It also shows how different the beers were just because of the changes in the hops and the hop schedules. Absolutely! While Beers #1 and #3 finished at 1.023, Beer #2 finished at 1.021. It's possible...

You're right, I considered Beer #3 a bit of an odd ball in this situation since the Galaxy used there was 2 percentage points higher and likely contributed to hop burn more than anything else. For this bulletpoint, I'm mostly comparing #1 and #2. Especially since I have had zero issues with...

Hey y'all, sorry if you saw me share this experiment on my Instagram or Reddit, but I know not everyone is on those so I'll share it on here as well. After all, this is the thread that taught me most of my techniques and methods and inspired this experiment :) So two friends and I brewed up a...

In regards to oxygen ingress, many folks with standard fermenters just tape a mylar balloon to an airlock and put it on when ready to cold crash. You basically use some tape to get it pretty tight around the airlock (I use a one piece), then hook it up to CO2 to get some CO2 inside before...

A little late to this - just used 8oz of '21 Citra in Whirlpool and the beer is fantastic. I've rarely gotten bad Citra from YVH though. Simcoe and Mosaic have been spotty much more often.

Yep, quite the contrary actually, if you DH early in the fermentation then your haze is more likely to drop out. I've had this happen.

That looks great! You may like adding more Centennial in the boil or a hop like Idaho 7 or CTZ in late boil or whirlpool to add a little more dankness to the brew. That way it's not as fruity and a little more balanced to your preference. I even like Idaho 7 in dry hop, personally. I will also...

Going to leave this data from YCH lab analysis here. This is from one of the Dry Hopping webinars. Webinars However! Couple of buddies and I are brewing 15 gallons to be split 3 ways and dry hopped with the same amounts, with the same yeast, but at 3 different time periods. #1. Mid-ferm and...

That's funny, I saw some slides on these hops and wanted to give this a shot too. Although it seems like it's a good combination for the dry hop as well as they have a good diversity in terms of hop oils, so my plan is to try them both on the hot and cold side. Fun note about Loral, one of the...

I just listened to this Master Brewers pod and didn't really hear anything on Whirlpool having a negative impact on thiols. At 40 min, Lance mentions that Mash hopping amplifies thiols and thiol precursors, which need to be available for the use by the yeast. He then mentions that you...

Another follow-up on Timbo as there's actually a homebrew competition taking place to clone Timbo for a chance to brew it at Highland Park. I'm a little late with the news so it's probably too late to submit yours, BUT Windsor Supply (who are helping with the competition) supplied Highland...

Follow up on this note, Imperial is making Pilgrimage (Andechs) available as a seasonal yeast to homebrewers if anyone is interested :) It's available at most Imperial yeast retailers. https://www.imperialyeast.com/organic-yeast-strains/yeast-types/seasonal/pilgrimage/

I did similar "Untappd analysis" on Alchemists' hop focus series called Skadoosh. I've only had #48, which barely made the charts. Here's how they stack up from highest rating to lowest: #1. Skadoosh 58, Mosaic #2. Skadoosh 46, Idaho 7 and Mosaic lupulin #3. 59, Citra #4. 45, Citra #5. 42...

    I haven't tried one, but it's interesting to me to look at Untappd ratings for each and how people liked them. #1. 4.5#/bbl, rated at 4.3 #2. 5.5#/bbl, rated at 4.33 #3. 7#/bbl, rated at 4.27 #4. 8.5#/bbl, rated at 4.42 #5. ??/bbl, rated 4.34 #6. 11.5#/bbl, rated 4.43 #7. ??/bbl, rated 4.44 #8...

I've tried a blonde ale with it and it's real underwhelming. Tastes like a pretty clean strain with some fruity undertones, but nothing to the level of LA3/Cosmic Punch or A24. For a blonde ale or a pale ale, it's very nice, but I wouldn't say that it'll make a great NEIPA.

Dang, didn't know this - is there an article on this? In Omega's original article I saw a comparison of Mash hops vs Whirlpool hops comparison, but there was no data for when both were used.

You don't want to use any Crystal malts for this style, bud. The color of any more than 1-2% of crystal malt will make it look oxidized. Your malt bill looks great! Totally go for it.

I might have heard that there too! Mostly this is advice I got talking to a couple of local brewers that make great NEIPA's so I wanted to give it a try. I added lactic acid after the whirlpool addition. I might try adding it before WP next time to see if that makes any difference.
