New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

If you can't manage a step-mash, I'd definitely opt for 152-155F at most, especially if you go for a higher OG. 158F could give you lots of unfermentables and a higher FG than you opted for. Bottling. I'm one of the people claiming that it worked for me... to an extent. Do I still bottle? No...

I don't wanna talk about it... but you're in the ballpark 😉

You should be ashamed! I'm jk, none of us are perfect and I just oxidized a batch even with fully closed transfer cause am dumb :)

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I'm pretty limited on the fermentation space in the fridge, but maybe I can pull the fermenters out halfway through as I ramp up the temp and hook them up. Good call.

100% on haze stability, Laura from Omega mentioned that DH'ing in the first half of fermentation will actually reduce your haze. There's a lot of bold statements in some of these videos, but the format is good so its fun to watch and learn so my videos don't suck haha. Nonetheless, I keep...

I was watching a fellow YouTuber make a hazy and he made an interesting claim. He believes that not using a spunding valve in his past NEIPA has resulted the CO2 to blow off most of the aroma from the beer. Is there any science out there on the effects of excessive purging or even using Spunding...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

It's not anything that hasn't been done before, maybe a slightly above normal bittering addition and a higher whirlpool temp (flameout), otherwise seems like a standard NEIPA recipe... I've made some 60 IBU NEIPAs before (lots of late additions) and I like them personally. Judges will dock...

Way to spread the good word of homebrewed NEIPA! How would you describe the flavors from this beer? Is it pretty Galaxy-dominated with white gummy bears/pineapple or does Enigma throw a bunch of berries or white grapes in there?

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Ok, I've been exposed through YouTube and the secret is out haha. Here's a TL;DR First of all, @Noob_Brewer thanks for the CTZ/Galaxy idea, it's an amazing combo! Really happy with both beers, CTZ works as a great base for these super fruity hops. I can't discern CTZ as dank, spicy or herbal...

I thought it smelled good with that classic peach and pineapple gummy bears, but let's see how it tastes in a few weeks here.

I have been liking 175F as whirlpool temp. I also usually love late additions, but got a few notes in competitions for "bitterness" and have seen folks report extra bitterness after using Incognito (and possible hop burn from Galaxy) so I opted for no boil additions this time.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I finally got around to brewing up @Noob_Brewer CTZ/Galaxy beer! Excited to see how it comes out. It's a bit of a departure from your recipe from the grain bill and the hop amounts, but it should roughly have the same vibes. 6ish gal batch split two ways. Whirlpool CTZ 4oz Galaxy 2oz Nectaron...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

A few weeks ago Nate posted a poll on Instagram asking folks for the total amount of dry hops for one of their 30bbl IPA's, I believe it was Very Green. The right answer ended up being at ~4+ lbs/bbl, which surprised me. Especially most of the recipes showing that Julius started out much lower...

Oatmeal Stout Flapjack Breakfast Stout (Chocolate-Coffee-Oatmeal-Maple Imperial Stout)

Nice! I'm fermenting a spin-off right now! Oatmeal stouts are 25-40 IBU usually, you don't want to approach the IPA territory when the focus is on the chocolate malts and maple syrup. IBUs can be nice, but I've been leaning towards less and less every iteration of this.

All 420+ pages?! You mad lad! I started at 300 something, read back 20ish pages and called it a day haha. The recipe looks good, although I'd omit one of the wheats and the carapils. Don't know how much impact they'll have overall, they're just complicating the recipe. @Dgallo does some...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Nice, any issues not leaving much room for krausen? I would worry that the blow off would clog your gas post, but I might give it a shot since I can actually fit two cornies into my fermentation fridge rather than 1 fermenter! Great opportunity for split batch experiments.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Haha is this the natural evolution of a brewer?! I'm in the same exact boat, making a bunch of West Coast IPAs right now. It's an exciting space to experiment though, I'm not really loading these beers with a bunch of crystal malts and all C-hops (nothing wrong with those). The west coast IPAs...

Turning your Fermonster into a complete closed transfer system for cheap!

I have and I think this is part of the problem... Since CO2 disconnect doesn't exactly "fit" the liquid post, it never comes off easy, so I have to yank on it and twist it, which is what I think breaks my lid in the end. I might have to add a CO2 hose with a liquid disconnect on it...

Turning your Fermonster into a complete closed transfer system for cheap!

How does does it take you to transfer ~5 gallons at this pressure? I've cracked my second lid the other day by overtightening the posts, going to have to get a third... I always run into issues of the liquid or gas post leaking CO2 so I have to mess with them to get them tighter or looser...

What's even better is that this hop is very versatile and is also often utilized in WC IPA! Kind of a bummer that YVH don't have Simcoe Lupomax though...
