New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Made a Citra/Sabro beer inspired by Hop Butcher's Neon Green relish as well as a redux of a NZ Cascade/Nelson/Citra beer I made a while back. The Sabro batch is banging and a good amount of tropical notes. Some friends as well as guys at HB advised a max of 20% so I went with NZ Cascade is also...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I haven't had any issues with the BeerGun personally. I've had the same experience of opening a bottle of a hazy 6 months later and it still looking pretty bright in color. Flavor wasn't the best, but it looked great lol. It works well for cans, too. Just be sure to fill all the way and cap on foam.

I wouldn't judge anything based on the aroma that the yeast is blowing off during fermentation. Let the beer fully ferment and then taste it.

That's poor organization for a comp, over 3 weeks to sort the bottles and get ready for a comp is a little intense. I wonder if the bottles were even refrigerated for that period.

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

Without chill haze and now that it dropped a little clearer, it certainly looks a little lighter. I usually go for 1oz/gal WP and 2oz/gal DH, but given this came out at 8%, I added a little more. I think about 2.5oz/gal in DH.

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

I brewed another modern WC IPA with Nelson and Mosaic that came out awesome. The color looks way darker than it should, despite using 100% pils. I think my heating element is a little running a little hot, I'll turn it down for the next brew. 100% Rahr Pils 69 IBU Pekko Mosaic Incognito and...

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

My beers can often end up with 100-110 and are in a pretty good place. Brewfather decides that I'm getting like 30 added IBU from whirlpool, idk if that adds much bitterness tho.

I think @Dgallo is onto something. I generally really dig stouts with Sea salt incorporated in some way, it adds a certain pop to the flavor. So far I've had a wonderful Maple + Sea Salt stout and a BA stout with vanilla + sea salt. Both delicious.

Yes. Got some '23 from HopAlliance and while it didn't have as much hop burn, it tasted like peanut shells. This was at 45% of the grist with Strata and Mosaic. On the other hand, I've tried a 100% '23 YVH Galaxy homebrew hazy and it was outstanding. I'd buy from YVH for sure.

    BCBS clone

I've used Briess' light RB and it tasted just like any other roasted malt. I wouldn't think twice about subbing it. As a matter of fact, Crisp Roasted Barley adds a great chocolate vibe. Much of this beer's character comes from extended aging in barrel, so I wouldn't judge the recipe on the...

Haha I love the evolution of the tasting notes here! It's a rollercoaster. Do you ever add any oak or throw this bad boy into a barrel?

I remember Pinthouse saying they use Kolsch yeast for their IPAs on their CB&B episode and I'm curious to try this one day! You use it in any of your IPAs? Reference: https://learn.beerandbrewing.com/courses/brewing-modern-ipas

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Speaking of Bootleg's Conan strain, I just made a split batch with it. Front: Nelson, Motueka, Citra (5:2:1, 5lbs/bbl): big peach rings, pineapple and papaya notes throughout. Sweet, juicy, with a funky tropical note that Conan brings. While this combo was good, I might stick with Citra and...

Hell yes brother, good to see you doing well! I saw Dopo in CB&B and immediately thought of you! It's awesome to see the recipe. I know you're allowed to do cans of higher ABV stuff, would you just scale this recipe for those? I've been loving Bootleg's New England, such a great yeast. Can't...

That looks awesome, well done! What tweaks would you make outside of shorter hop contact time? Although on that note, it seems like you still had great results despite leaving the beer on hops for 5 days. Any hazy brewer on CB&B pod has basically said that they try to give the hops no more than...

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

I just chatted with the guy who placed #2 at the Comp and he actually made a modern IPA for that, so there's hope! His was higher abv and Strata/Mosaic instead of Simcoe/Mosaic.

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

While it was tasty to drink, the judges didn't like it very much. Some complaints of beer being too light in color and in character (only 6.3% abv), so there's that. If I were to brew this for a comp, I'd probably go with 2-row vs pils, go up to 7% or so and add a second dry hop.

I'm thinking about using this hop combo, but thought that it'd be a little too dank between Idaho 7 and Strata. Any thoughts there? Also, are all of your hops from YVH? Any cryo in DH?

German Pils Bo Berry Pils (West Coast Pilsner)

I'd historically never advise anyone to use less hops, but lately I feel like less is more with lighter beers. Definitely agree that it's a pretty large dry hop, you can always maybe DH in keg later on if you really feel that the flavors are missing. Otherwise Timbo clone is a solid starting...
